    The woman who suffered a "horrific attack" in a Leicester park last night is fighting for her life, police said.

    Officers have released CCTV footage of a man who was seen in Victoria Park shortly before a woman in her 20s was attacked late last night.

    The woman was walking from Granville Road across the park towards Victoria Park Road at about 23:40 when she was attacked and dragged into some bushes.

    Det Ch Insp Rob Widdowson said: “Whoever carried out this attack is clearly dangerous and must be caught without delay.

    “He will have gone home last night covered in his victim’s blood and today he is likely to be highly agitated and may well be behaving out of character.

    “This young woman is today fighting for life in hospital and we need the public’s help in identifying the person who did this."

    A man who sent Polish workers to Sports Direct in Shirebrook has been found guilty of forced labour and fraud.

    Dariusz Parczewski kept the men in squalid caravans in Nottingham and his family kept their benefits and pay.

    He recruited the men in Poland with offers of houses and well-paid jobs but were crammed into caravans outside the family's lavishly decorated homes in Aspley.

    The jury found that his wife Bozena took part in the crimes as well but she wasn't fit to stand trial. Their son Krystian has also been convicted of fraud.

    Today the jury heard all three weren't in court, because they went missing before the trial. The Polish authorities have been contacted, and an application is being made for a European Arrest Warrant.

    Officers are waiting to speak to the woman who was involved in a "serious and violent attack" in Victoria Park in Leicester.

    The woman, in her 20s, suffered head and upper body injuries late last night.

    Leicestershire Police are waiting for her condition to improve before they speak to her about the attack.

    Det Ch Insp Rob Widdowson, who is leading the investigation, said: “What is known is that this young woman suffered an extremely serious and violent attack.

    “At present her medical treatment takes priority, and until we have an opportunity to speak to her, anything else is speculation.

    “We are supporting her family who are understandably devastated by what has happened, and on their behalf, and on behalf of the investigation, it would be helpful if people would stop speculating on social media sites about the precise nature of the attack.”

    Officers are investigating the area near the recycling bins in Victoria Park where the woman was found.

    A quilt showcasing 400 years of Nottinghamshire's history is being donated as a special gift to the United States.

    It was created by the Nottinghamshire branch of the Quilters' Guild, highlighting the origins of the Pilgrim Fathers.

    BBC Radio Nottingham has been campaigning to honour the likes of William Brewster, from Scrooby, who sailed on the Mayflower in 1620.

    Richard Pickering is deputy executive director of Plimoth Plantation - a living history museum in Massachusetts - which is where the quilt is going.

    He said: "It is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous, and as a historian I think if history was conveyed more by quilts, people would know more history.

    "It is so engaging, vibrant and we will make sure this gift is revered and always protected."

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearm possession after reports of a gun shot in Worksop yesterday morning.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they received a report that a gun had been fired in the Gateford Road area at about 01:40 BST on 3 June.

    Armed officers then searched an address in Cheapside this morning and arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the firearms incident. He remains in custody.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage after a mosque's windows were smashed as people worshiped inside last night.

    Witnessed detained a 47-year-old man at Masjid Umar Mosque and Islamic Centre in Radford, Nottinghamshire Police said. He was later arrested.

    Officers, who recovered a hammer, are trying to trace further witnesses, including occupants of a red vehicle who helped in the detention of the suspect.

    Nottinghamshire Police said it is believed to be an isolated incident. The man remains in custody.

    The attack comes two days after two men were charged with racially aggravated public order offences after meat, believed to be pork, was allegedly smeared on the front door of Al-Quba Masjid mosque in Sherwood.

    An investment banker who has sued Mike Ashley (below) after claiming that he is owed £14m, has been accused of making up evidence.

    Jeffrey Blue believes Mr Ashley, who owns Newcastle United and Shirebrook-based Sports Direct, did not stick to a commercial agreement.

    Mr Blue says Mr Ashley promised to pay him £15m if he used his expertise to increase Sports Direct's share price to £8 a share. But he alleges that Mr Ashley paid only £1m.

    David Cavender QC, who is leading Mr Ashley's legal team, accused Mr Blue of "making up evidence."

    The hearing, at the High Court in London, is expected to hear evidence from Mike Ashley later today.

    A man who "enjoyed strangling women" murdered a 16-year-old girl in his bedroom at his parents' house, a court heard.

    James Morton, now 24, denies murdering Hannah Pearson in Newark in July last year.

    Michael Evans, QC, prosecuting, said: "He was someone who increasingly enjoyed the sensation of strangling women.

    "He knew it was dangerous, that was what turned him on."

    Mr Evans told Nottingham Crown Court that Mr Morton rang the police just after midnight to say he had killed her but that it was an accident.

    Jurors heard Mr Morton's parents were away at the time.

    The trial continues.

    Katie Boulter has promised herself that she will "enjoy every moment" of her Wimbledon main draw debut.

    Boulter, 20, from Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire, was handed a wildcard into the main draw, having previously competed at SW19 in the junior competition.

    "I'm very excited for what is going to come and I'm going to enjoy every moment of it," Boulter told BBC Sport.

    Her match is second on court 12 against the American Christina McHale.

    All tram services across Nottingham are now running but there are still 30 minute delays.

    Trams had stopped running earlier this morning after a power failure which meant shuttle buses were being used instead.

    Nottingham Express Transit said it is working to resume a full timetable as quickly as possible.

    People have been getting in touch on Facebook , externalto share their views after police stepped in to remove travellers from Chaddesden Park.

    Derbyshire Police said they had been monitoring the group for several days and had become concerned about damage.

    Marcia Warren said: "Heard the kids have been riding round on quad bikes, so no doubt damage has been caused to the park that the council can't afford to repair never mind the clean up bill."

    The local government boundary commission has approved plans to cut the number of elected members on Harborough District Council.

    Final recommendations for the the area, published this morning, mean the electorate now will choose 34 councillors at the next election, down from 37.

    The new arrangements will take effect in time for the next council elections in 2019.

    Emergency services were called to the park in the early hours of this morning and a woman has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

    "Investigations are in the very early stages and a cordon is in place on the park," a spokesperson for Leicestershire Police added.

    A teenager has made a documentary to save a hospital unit where she had open heart surgery.

    Ellie Kemp, 18, from Keyworth created it to support the children's heart unit at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, where she had surgery at the age of 10.

    Ellie said: "If it wasn't for Glenfield and if they didn't pick up my heart condition when they did, who knows where I would be in the next 10 or so years.

    "The kind of heart condition I had, if it wasn't picked up and treated it would have just got worse and worse until it would have been too late really."

    Plans to end children's heart surgery in Leicester and divert patients to Birmingham were announced last year, as part of a national review.

    Derby North MP Chris Williamson has called on the judge heading the Grenfell Tower inquiry to stand down.

    Mr Williamson, who was reappointed as shadow fire service minister on Monday, said Sir Martin Moore-Bick did not have the "confidence of the community" in Kensington.

    But retired Court of Appeal judge Sir Martin has said he understands the "desire of local people for justice."
