These figures are of great concern. It is totally unacceptable for officers to be assaulted as they carry out their duties protecting their communities. Police officers understand their role puts them into contact with people in extreme situations but that does not mean that they should see being assaulted as part of the job."

Sue Hills, who live in Tur Langton, said her daughter was manipulated by Dhillon during their short relationship and that he drove away a lot of her friends: "She did at one time ring me and say 'mum I don't want to live in Newcastle anymore - I want to come back to Leicester because I haven't got any friends at all'."

    Sue Hills
    Quote Message

You do think about it all the time. It doesn't get any easier but I think you get better at dealing with it. Originally I couldn't talk about it without crying, now I can. That doesn't mean it feels better, it just means I can cope with it."

Sue Hills, Mother of Alice Ruggles

The family has set up a trust in her name, external that aims to work with the police on how they deal with reports of harassment.

They also want social media platforms to take more responsibility at spotting potentially dangerous behaviour and making victims aware of help available to them.

Ms Hills said the trust will be worthwhile if they manage to save "just one more person".

Earlier this year Dhillon was jailed for a minimum of 22 years for Alice's murder.

Daniel said: "At this stage we are seeking reassurance from the business around any potential impact on jobs, and obviously in terms of protecting our members' terms and conditions.

"It is a concerning time for the membership, there is no doubt about that.

"It is a hard working and loyal workforce at BCM and it is more questions than answers at this stage."
