    A teenager who stabbed a man in the back five times in Nottingham city centre has been jailed for seven years.

    Nthambi Mkanda, 19, from Colwick, attacked, external the man following an altercation between two groups in King Street in March.

    Nottingham Crown Court heard how Mkanda chased the victim along King Street and onto Trinity Square stabbing him five times in the back, Nottinghamshire Police said.

    The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where he required stitches.

    Mkanda was convicted of wounding with intent after a trial.

    Sad news for Nottingham.

    It looks like the Little John bell at the Council House will not be used as a substitute while essential repair work on Big Ben is carried out.

    It was considered as an alternative recording for broadcast on BBC Radio 4, which broadcasts the chimes of Big Ben live.

    Head of station management Denis Nowlan told Radio 4 various alternatives were considered.

    "We came very close to using the sound of Nottingham's bells," he said.

    But they will not be used because it doesn't ring throughout the night and instead a pre-recording of Big Ben itself will be used.

    Councillor Graham Chapman, deputy leader for Nottingham City Council, said: "We were a bit upset but to be honest we do understand the reasons."

    Police have released this shocking CCTV footage of a cash machine being stolen from a shop in Hatton in Derbyshire.

    The footage shows the men arrive at the Nisa store and use a digger to drag the ATM from the wall. It's then loaded into a trailer and driven off.

    The digger had been stolen from Tutbury and was left at the scene.

    The vehicle, trailer and cash machine were found abandoned in Markfield in Leicestershire a few days later.

    A jury has heard evidence surrounding the death of 16-year-old Mitchell Rodgers who was hit by a train while being chased by police.

    He died in March 2015 after a 999 call reported youths entering a property on Bridge Street in Belper.

    When the police turned up Mitchell Rodgers gave a false name and ran off towards the station.

    The inquest heard today that a train struck the teenager causing 22 separate injuries including to his head.

    The toxicologist and the forensic pathologist concluded that death was almost instantaneous.

    Investigations are continuing after a van was deliberately set on fire which then spread to nearby railway arches.

    Emergency crews were called at about 19:30 on Saturday to the parked van at the Arches in Friar Gate.

    Derbyshire Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious around South Street or the Great Northern Road at the time.

    Cases of bed bugs treated by Derby City Council has hugely increased in the last 10 years.

    In the year of 2005/6 the council were called to nine cases of bed bugs but in the year 2016/17 that number increased to 174 cases.

    The worst year on record was 2014/15 when they treated 268 cases.

    Jill Haynes and Ian Irving are the council's bedbug busters - last week they dealt with ten cases alone.

    They believe the increase in bed bug cases is down to more people travelling and more people shopping at second-hand shops.

    Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping has warned of the dangers of taking the drug known as Black Mamba following the death of a man.

    The 37-year-old man died after taking the illegal psychoactive drug known as Black Mamba on Saturday, police said.

    Mr Tipping said: "It is a problem in Derby, it is a problem in Nottingham, there is a problem nationally and what are we doing about it.?

    "Well there has been a lot of publicity both locally and nationally about the dangers and we need to use this event to try and persuade people that these are not recreational drugs, they are killer drugs."

    Rooney ran the final leg in the last event of the Championships - the 400 metre relay.

    Rural crime has been estimated to cost the UK £39m, with many farmers feeling "under siege" from thieves.

    Lincolnshire was the worst hit county in 2016 with the cost exceeding £2.5m while in Derbyshire crime claims cost more than £1m.

    In Leicestershire the problem has gone up by a third in the space of 12 months with insurer NFU Mutual saying it cost the county £650,000 in 2016.

    Tasty treats are being baked at a new cafe in Sherwood - but without sugar and dairy.

    Hannah Gee was inspired to open the cafe after her father Stephen was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

    He decided to cut out sugar, dairy and red meat, which encouraged Hannah to make him tasty foods to fit his diet and to help others.

    Hannah now sells the cakes in the cafe, which is tucked away in the gift shop, A Room Full of Butterflies.

    She said: "For me it has always been about love and it has always been about the love for my dad and for wanting to make him happy."

    The owner of an egg factory in Leicester has been telling the BBC about a pretty "egg-citing" project he's been working on.

    Pankaj Pancholi at Just Egg in Hamilton has been turning egg shells into a component of plastic.

    The shells are broken into pieces, the protein is removed and then they are dried into a calcium carbonate "egg shell powder".

    With the help of the several universities this powder is then used to make plastics like this.

    Mr Pancholi said it's an alternative to mining chalk and it saves all the shells going to landfill. He's now pushing plastic making companies to use more of this product.
