    Police believe the same black Audi was used in three separate offences, external in Notts earlier this week.

    A car had its windows smashed in Retford on Monday night and the following night there was a burglary in Sherwood followed by an attempted break-in at a house in Nuthall 15 minutes later.

    The new universal credit benefit is causing many claimants in Nottingham to fall into debt, according to the city council's deputy leader.

    About 2,700 are already using the system in the city, but Graham Chapman, said he agreed with the result of last night's non-binding Parliamentary vote calling for the roll out of the benefit to be paused.

    Sally Denton, from the Nottingham Law Centre, which provides independent advice benefits, added: "You're looking at a situation where people are at real risk of homelessness just because of delays in getting their claim up and running."

    The government believes universal credit is "a simpler system", that "encourages people to get into the workplace".

    Leicester City's caretaker manager Michael Appleton has said the players remain "very positive," despite the sacking of Craig Shakespeare.

    Former Oxford United boss Appleton, who was also assistant to Shakespeare, was placed in temporary charge after Tuesday's sacking.

    "I’m hoping the players don’t need lifting," Appleton told reporters ahead of the Foxes' game against Swansea.

    "The group is very positive and I fully expect our mindset to be on Saturday’s game.

    "My full focus is making sure I pick the right team for Saturday. Hopefully with a bit of luck and quality we can go and win."

    We've had loads of comments on Facebook, external about a family who were scolded by police after running out of fuel on the M1 in Derbyshire.

    Kate Owen said: "Silly but we've all made mistakes or decisions that were wrong. The main thing is they're all safe. I'm sure the driver doesn't need the negative comments. A lesson learnt."

    "It shouldn't be so dangerous to have car problems on the motorway - that's what hard shoulders were for! Whoever decided we didn't need them is putting lives at risk," said Anne Lomax.

    But Richard Woodward opined: "The driver should be fined for running out of fuel on the motorway, no excuse."

    A man who almost collapsed while out shopping in Ilkeston wants to trace the Good Samaritan who helped him.

    The “mystery man” helped Neville Harvey to a seat, fetched his wife, waited with him while Mr Harvey’s wife got the car, then encouraged him to go to hospital.

    Once in hospital, Mr Harvey was diagnosed with angina and epilepsy.

    “I now have an assortment of medication to help me, so I would just like to say an enormous thank you to the mystery man who helped us,” said Mr Harvey.

    “I didn't get his name, but it's nice to know that the world has its heroes when you need them.”

    Mr Harvey said it happened on the afternoon of 14 October in Shoezone, in the Albion Centre.

    Nottinghamshire all-rounder Steven Mullaney has signed a new four-year deal with the club.

    The deal means that Mullaney, 30, who has been a mainstay across all formats, will stay at Trent Bridge until 2021.

    The former Lancashire all-rounder said: "It's a great deal for both parties, I think, showing commitment from both sides.

    "The club took a bit of a punt on me at the end of the 2009 season, initially asking me to join to improve their white-ball cricket, but hopefully I have repaid the faith shown in me over the last eight seasons."

    There's been an increase in the number of obese young children in the East Midlands.

    Latest figures from Public Health England, external showed 9.5% of reception class children were obese in the year up to 31 August - up from 9.1% the previous year.

    However, the region came in slightly below the national average of 9.6%.

    Ann Crawford, from Public Health England's East Midlands division, said: "These latest figures should be a wake-up call.

    "Childhood obesity is the challenge of a generation and more joined-up local action is needed."

    BBC Radio Leicester's Tim Parker was among the first people to set foot on the new Charter Street Bridge after it was successfully lifted into position this morning.

    One of the world's largest cranes was used to install the £1.2m bridge, which connects Abbey Park to Belgrave Road. It's due to open to the public in December.

    Photos have been released of two men police are keen to speak to about an alleged assault in Derby.

    Derbyshire Police said a 35-year-old man was walking along Arbor Close, off Abbey Street, at about 18:20 on October 7 when a pair of men approached him and punched him several times. They then walked off.

    Leicester Tigers made a loss of £686,000 last season, up from £424,000 in 2015/16.

    The club's latest accounts, external show revenue increased from £19m to £19.7m and that there was a rise in the cost of player and coaching staff wages.

    Money raised by ticket sales fell by 6% to £5.5m, which the club puts down to the lack of a home European Champions Cup quarter-final.

    The average attendance at Welford Road rose from 21,462 in 2015/16 to 22,444 in 2016/17.

    The 34-year-old said: "Obviously I need to perform better if I want to go on further in the tournament, but I'm still in it, so I can only improve."

    Candles are being lit at Leicester Cathedral this evening (17:30) for those who have been affected by hate crime.

    It is part of a service that has been organised as a mark of solidarity with those who suffer, or who may have have lost their lives, because of being judged by their nationality, religion, sexuality or look.

    Reverend Karen Rooms, who is conducting the service, said: "I think it is true to say we have a number of people who worship with us who are victims of this sort of crime.

    "Part of our work is to support people in that situation."

    A mountain rescue team's training session at Hey Moss in Derbyshire this weekend was interrupted by a motorbike crash, external on the nearby Woodhead Pass.

    Members of the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team raced to the aid of the motorcyclist, who'd suffered several trauma injuries, and helped to stabilise the patient before they were airlifted to hospital.

    The team then returned to Hey Moss and finished off their training.

    New figures have shown thousands fewer potholes are being repaired on roads in Nottingham compared to four years ago.

    Over the past 12 months, the city council has spent £83,000 patching up about 9,500 holes - but in 2013 the authority spent £143,000 fixing more than 16,000 holes.

    The figures were put to Nottingham City Council's portfolio holder for local transport, Sally Longford.

    She said: "Despite continuing cuts to our funding, our road maintenance teams are continuing to respond to reported issues with the roads in addition to our ongoing repair programme."

    A man's in a stable condition after being repeatedly stabbed in the chest in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

    Police said the 29-year-old was attacked in Lowmoor Road shortly before 23:30 on Saturday.
