    Most of us will have heard the song about Ernie who drove "the fastest milk cart in the west".

    This tribute vehicle has been making an appearance at Victoria Park in Leicester - but it's no ordinary milk cart.

    This one has a hot drinks counter in the back where passers-by can buy tea or coffee.

    Money raised from selling hot drinks goes towards a local homeless charity.

    Keith Lawson West from The Bridge (Homelessness to Hope) told the BBC every cup of coffee sold buys a breakfast for a homeless person in Leicester.

    They have plans to expand and open four more milk float coffee bars over the next four years.

  2. CCTV appeal after man 'seriously injured' in attackpublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2017

    CCTV images of two men officers would like to speak to in connection with an assault have been released.

    A 49-year-old man was walking along Osmaston Road, external near Western Cars taxi office when he was punched in the face in what is described as an "unprovoked attack".

    The man suffered serious injuries and has had surgery to fit metal plates in his broken jaw.

    Derbyshire Police say the people believed to be responsible left the area in a taxi.

    It happened on 28 October at about 02:50 but the images have only just been released.

    A local scaffolding company is helping Radio Leicester celebrate its 50th birthday with this new sign.

    It's been put up on the scaffolding around the High Cross statue in Jubilee Square.

  4. Man charged with Lenton stabbingpublished at 09:34 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2017

    A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with a stabbing in Lenton.

    The man of Albert Grove, Nottingham, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and being in possession of an offensive weapon.

    He is due before Nottingham Magistrates' Court this morning.

    Nottinghamshire Police have also arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder over the same incident who remains in police custody.

    Stabbing

    A 19-year-old remains in a serious condition following a stabbing in Albert Grove on 1 November.

    A 26-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released under investigation and a 21-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released on bail.

    Cities across the East Midlands are some of the "fastest improving" in the UK according to a new report by an accountancy firm.

    PricewaterhouseCoopers ranks areas on factors like employment, health, income and affordability of housing.

    Leicester came third in the UK for "most improved" city. Derby and Nottingham were also named amongst the fastest improving cities in the 2017 index.

    A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape, external after a report of an attack in Nottingham city centre.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they received a report of a sexual assault on a 22-year-old woman outside an address in Brightmoor Street in the early hours of Sunday.

    The man remains in police custody.

    A woman whose former boss painted "bitch" on her car had to wait more than two years for his conviction, despite CCTV evidence.

    Suzanne Brogan's car was attacked by her former boss in December 2014 and a month later he poured red paint on it - both were caught on camera.

    Two years and two victim's right to review applications later, Chris Stanton was convicted in January of two counts of criminal damage.

    Ms Brogan said: "If you don't fight and you're not prepared to fight it's almost as if the system is working against you."

    Stanton was fined £4,615 and given a restraining order, banning him from contacting Ms Brogan.

    He appealed against his conviction but has since dropped his bid.

    A spokesperson for the CPS said it was seeking to make full use of court powers to protect people.

    There are more than 6,400 homeless people in the East Midlands according to recent research by housing charity Shelter.

    It's drawn on a number of sources including official rough-sleeping and temporary accommodation data to produce these estimated figures.

    It says the number of homeless people in the region has risen in the past year.

    The report comes as volunteers in Leicester begin helping rough-sleepers on the city's streets as part of a week-long project.

We know some of them are very visible and sleep in the middle of the city but quite a lot of them are hidden. What we want to do is try to engage them, speak to them about what they might want and how they can come off the street."

    A respite home in Newark will close next year despite a long running campaign to save it.

    Nottinghamshire County Council says it doesn't have the funds to keep Woods Court open and is meeting with families today to discuss future care.

    It offers a permanent home to six residents and respite care for people with dementia or who are recuperating after a stay in hospital.

    The initial decision to close it was announced in 2015.

    Lynne Chapman, whose mother-in law receives respite care, said: "People need to go somewhere familiar, they need to see the same faces and obviously we need the break as well.

    "It is all down to funding and they really need to rethink what they are doing, because once it has gone there is no way it can be replaced."
