    A 35-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

    Nottinghamshire Police said , externalthe man from Retford appeared before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court this morning.

    He has now been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court.

    A coroner has recorded a conclusion of accidental death at the inquest of Owen Jenkins.

    The 12-year-old died while trying to save a friend who had got into difficulty at Beeston Weir in July.

    Nottinghamshire Coroner's Court has heard from Broxtowe Borough Council regarding the death of Owen Jenkins at Beeston Weir.

    Ruth Hyde told the inquest a temporary barrier was erected shortly after the 12-year-old drowned, along with life-saving equipment stored near the weir.

    The councillor said: "The most important step that was agreed was that warning notices would be erected in the vicinity of the weir.

    "They give a clear message to anyone who is thinking of entering the water that it is dangerous."

    Acting Det Ch Insp Peter Quinn, from Nottinghamshire Police, told the court he was satisfied no criminality was involved.
