A group of doctors are set to open a private out-of-hours GP service because they say the NHS is struggling to cope.

GP Link will open next month in Leicester in the evenings and at weekends, charging between £35 and £45 for a 15 minute appointment.

Dr Arti Thakerar, from the group, said: "It's really, really difficult to see your GP so what we're offering is an accessible, importantly, and an affordable alternative option.

    Dr Arti Thakerar

"It is unfortunate that we have to resort to things like this because patients just aren't able to see GPs."

Local NHS services said that while a private practice might see patients for longer - and get an appointment earlier - they won't necessarily have a patient's medical records or know the family history.
