Now the ruling Conservative group says there'll be no charge for emptying residents' brown bins.

This is despite the authority saying it has a £23m funding gap.

A Leicestershire paramedic has thanked bystanders for handing him bottles of water and ice as hot tarmac from the road melted into his trousers.

Tim Hargraves had been tending to a patient lying in a street in Loughborough on Sunday when he said the temperatures were up to 29C.

He said: "I was on my hands and knees helping the patient and the road was that hot that it melted into my trousers. I had tarmac knees!"

Mr Hargraves told BBC Radio Leicester paramedics are always carrying extra water in this weather but on this occasion he needed more.

He said the tarmac still hadn't come out of his trousers after a wash, so he was off to buy a new pair.

And now millions of people in north-west England are facing a hosepipe ban.

However, Severn Trent Water, which supplies water to customers in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland has said its reservoirs are in a "healthy position".

This is despite some reservoirs in the region looking rather dry, like Howden in Derbyshire (pictured above, last week).
