Giving evidence this afternoon, Lauren Leigh said she had been suspended from Nottingham Trent University since the incident and suffered from anxiety caused by the legal proceedings.
She had however passed her first year exams.
The 19-year-old had been in an on-off relationship with Joe Tivnan and they had often used racist banter, but described it as throwaway comments with no malicious intent.
On the night, Mr Tivnan had shouted, "we hate blacks", and she retaliated "we hate the whites", she said.
She said she knew everybody there and felt it was unlikely to cause any offence.
"I was drunk, but not paraletic. I knew what I was doing," she added.
Deputy district judge, Chris Johnson, said there was no doubt that the words were capable of causing harassment and they were used in a public place.
But while her response was "ill advised" there was no hostility and therefore the case could not be proven.
Lauren cried as the verdict was read out, repeating "thank you, thank you", before going out and hugging her parents.

CrossCountry has said a "small fire" started underneath a train carriage shortly after it left Derby railway station at 13.00.
A spokesman said the train was the Penzance to Glasgow service and the fire was "quickly contained" by fire crews.
CrossCountry said passengers were evacuated as a precaution had now been taken back to Derby station to wait for the train to be returned so that they can be "reunited with their luggage."
Trains through Derby have been disrupted as a result and passengers have been advised to check their journeys.

Today at Nottingham Magistrates' Court, we heard from the woman who filmed footage of racist chanting at Nottingham Trent University halls.
She said she knew Lauren Leigh, 19, well, and described her as a friend.
Banter was common between her hall mates, she said, but she recognised this language would have offended those who weren't in their group.
A transcript of Lauren Leigh's police interview was read out, in which she described 19-year-old Joe Tivnan (pictured), who previously admitted racial harrassment in May, as a good friend who she had regular banter with.
On that night Mr Tivnan had said "no blacks in the photo", and chanted "we hate the blacks", before she responded "we hate the whites".
Miss Leigh said it was never her intention to offend anyone.
Her defence barrister said there was no evidence she had acted out of hostility or that anyone was caused distress.
The prosecution argued the words themselves demonstrated hostility.

Conservative MP Anna Soubry also called for a law change after Sir Cliff Richard won his privacy case against the BBC.
At Prime Minister's Questions, citing "Cliff's' law", she said: "Suspects should not be named by the media until such time as they are charged."
In response, Theresa May said it was a very "difficult issue" and needed "careful judgement".
"There may well be cases where the publication of a name enables other victims to come forward and therefore strengthen a case," the prime minister said.
She also said both the police and media "have to recognise their responsibilities".

A Nottinghamshire county councillor has described policing priorities, including modern slavery and domestic violence, as "politically correct".
Conservative Philip Owen made the comments during a policy committee meeting at County Hall.
"These are issues that are not affecting the vast majority if any of my constituents," the councillor for Nuthall and Kimberley told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"The issues that are affecting my constituents don't seem to be a priority to police and that is what I was complaining about this morning."
Labour's Alan Rhodes called the remarks "shameful" and said he should consider his position.

A very rare sight indeed in Narborough yesterday.
Gary Toward tweeted a video of this completely white squirrel.
Leicestershire Wildlife Trust said it could be either an albino or a leucistic grey squirrel.
Albinos have pink eyes whereas leucistic - which means the creature lacks melanin - have white fur and dark eyes.
Mr Toward said he couldn't see enough to make out the colour of the rodent's eyes.
"They stand out more so predators can spot them easily which means they rarely survive as long as other squirrels," a spokesman said.

One of four men accused of kidnapping and killing Leicester jeweller Ramniklal Jogiya has begun giving evidence.
Charles Mcauley , 20, of Braunstone, Leicester, told the jury it was not his idea and he thought six people were going to be involved.
He said his understanding of his role was to drive to Mr Jogiya’s jewellers shop on Belgrave Road in Leicester on the night of 24 January, drop someone off and then drive away.
But he said on the night “things got muddled up.”
The court has heard that after Mr Jogiya was taken into the van Mr Mcauley drove to a football stadium in Birstall.
Mr Mcaulay said one of his co-defendants, Thomas Jervis, had a gun which he had hidden in a burka he had put on before running into the shop, but Mr Mcauley said he didn't know a gun was part of the plan.
The trial continues.
