A jury has heard that a woman was "left for dead" after being raped in Ilkeston last November.

Anthony Dealey, of Erewash Square in Ilkeston, denies the attempted murder, rape, sexual assault and robbery of the woman in Queen's Avenue.

Gordon Aspley, prosecuting, told Derby Crown Court that the woman, in her 30s, had been out for a night in Nottingham to celebrate someone’s birthday, arriving back in Ilkeston at 03:40.

He said Mr Dealey was captured on CCTV by himself wearing a grey hooded top outside a bookmakers at 03:10.

“He was out and about on foot stalking the silent streets of the town,” he told Derby Crown Court.

He said the woman heard footsteps and heavy breathing behind her, before she was picked up and he overpowered her before subjecting her to a brutal sexual attack in which his hands were “around her throat, stifling her cries.”

The trial continues and is expected to last two weeks.

The organisation has analysed the latest annual plans, called local transformation plans, in which the nation's Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) set out how they will care for children's mental health.

The charity found that nationally, 88% were failing to properly plan for the needs of vulnerable children, including those who had been abused.

The local picture was better, however, with all three Leicestershire CCGs moving from a red rating in 2015/16 and 2016/17 to an amber rating in 2017/18.

Both amber and red ratings mean action is needed to improve.

  20. Apple farmer affected by hot summerpublished at 09:15 British Summer Time 17 September 2018

    Amy Woodfield
    BBC News

You might have noticed the apples hanging from trees this autumn are not quite as big as normal.

A number of Nottinghamshire apple growers have noticed it including Ray Blockley, a cider maker in Hucknall.

    Ray Blockley

He said the weather is to blame - "We've had a long, dry summer. We had something called the "June drop" that every orchardist knows when trees shed lots of small apples. This year it was more like the "June massacre". The floor was covered in them.

"The biggest concern was the fact that without the water the apples were very small but the recent rain has fortunately helped them increase in size."

Despite the arrival of the rain Ray said the apples are still "smaller than normal".

He said the size of the apple can affect the way it tastes and this year will be known as a "vintage" year with high sugar levels and an increased flavour.
