The Alfreton Road railway bridge in Derby has been "significantly damaged" by a water main, which burst in August.

The BBC has learned the internal structure of the 180-year-old bridge was damaged meaning it could take an "extended period" to repair.

A council engineer has said it has been left leaking "like a colander" and that it was lucky there wasn't a catastrophe.

The road has been closed since August, leading to congestion on nearby routes including the A61.

    BBC Radio Derby

Only 99 sleeps until Christmas - we're into single figures.

You might think it's too early to be using the "C" word but there's a company in Little Eaton which has been in festive mood for weeks.

    Christmas Trees

Plantscape are charging up about 3,000 fake Christmas trees with the help of solar panels.

Later in the year the trees will be used by councils across the UK to decorate public spaces.

Richard Webster is from the company and said they have to start early as councils plan how to spend their budgets well in advance.

He said: "We have to basically get them all down, charge all the batteries up, and then wire them all up. We do various tests on them as well to make sure all the lights work. We need to make sure every one of them is flashing."
