    Two of three lanes on the M1 south have reopened between junctions 25 and 24A after a lorry fire shut the carriageway earlier.

    Highways England said delays on the motorway are beginning to ease but warned drivers to allow extra time.

    Two men have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a 17-year-old boy.

    The teenager suffered burns and stab wounds at an address in the Bestwood area of Nottingham on Sunday. He is currently in hospital in a stable condition.

    Brandon Whelpton, who is 22 years old and from Danes Close in Arnold, and 25-year-old Jake West, from Pedmore Valley in Bestwood, have also been charged with false imprisonment.

    They are due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court today.

    Three other men arrested in connection with the attack remain in police custody.

    A high-speed police chase ended when a car ran out of fuel.

    Derbyshire police said a vehicle was spotted doing 90mph through Littleover and 130mph on the A38 between Derby and Burton.

    It eventually ran out of fuel and rolled to a stop.

    A man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving and driving under the influence.

    A 30-year-old man is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court charged with 14 offences.

    He is accused of robbery, stalking, burglary, two counts of theft, harassment and eight counts of breach of a restraining order.

    He was arrested yesterday and is due to appear in court later today.

    More than £1m has been set aside to help build affordable homes to rent in Leicester.

    The city council will provide £1,082,744 of funding to the Riverside Group Ltd to support its purchase of 46 new affordable homes in Beaumont Leys.

    City Mayor Peter Soulsby said: “By providing Right To Buy funding to the Riverside Group in this way, we can help ensure that dozens of new homes, including much-needed bungalow accommodation, are available at affordable rents as part of a new housing development in Beaumont Leys.”

    The council is also planning to set up its own housing company, investing £50m to build around 300 affordable homes in the area.

    A massive housing development planned for a former RAF barracks in Rutland has been scaled down.

    Originally Rutland County Council wanted to build up to 3,500 houses at St George's Barracks in North Luffenham when it closes in 2021.

    After concerns from local people, the number of houses has now been reduced to 2,700.

    The draft plan for the development was published earlier this year. An updated version is due to be presented to the county council’s Cabinet in October and Full Council in November.

    A Nottinghamshire Labour activist who says she was raped at a party event has said that Labour is "dragging its feet" in tackling sexual harassment.

    Labour commissioned a review by QC Karon Monaghan to investigate the way it handled her allegations and identify areas to improve.

    Ms Bailey waived her anonymity last year to say she was discouraged from reporting the attack in 2011.

    “To be honest, I don’t know why the party is dragging its feet on this," she said.

    She also expressed concern about the party not involving victims in implementing the report's recommendations..

    A Labour spokeswoman said: "The party is currently considering further changes to our procedures in light of Karon Monaghan QC's report, to ensure sexual harassment complaints are always dealt with promptly, fairly and with utmost confidentiality."

    Nottingham Children's Hospital has unveiled plans for a state of the art facility, that will improve how they treat brain tumours in children.

    They're planning to buy an iMRI machine and need to raise £1.2m. It's hoped it will revolutionise the treatment children can get at the Queen's Medical Centre.

    Paediatric neurosurgeon, Donald MacArthur, compared the scanner to a "surgical sat nav".

    He said the "map" goes out-of-date when you start removing parts of the tumour but this MRI scanner will quickly update it again.

    Kalpesh Kanani said it would have made a huge difference to his son Amari.

    He was just five when he underwent a seven hour operation. He then had to have another one a year later.

    Kalpesh said the new scanner would make a "huge difference" by allowing neurosurgeon's to be able to get the job done in just one operation and not having to return for a second time.

    New schools will be opened across Nottinghamshire to help deal with the increased population from the tens of thousands of homes being built.

    The county council is looking for sponsors for eight "free schools" - a type of academy school.

    It said it has been given permission to seek proposals for potential sponsors which could include groups of parents, charities, universities and educational groups.

    The council said the free schools are needed as a result of housing developments in areas such as Sharphill in Rushcliffe, Rempstone Road in East Leake, Teal Close in Netherfield and Crown Land in Bingham over the next six years.

    The searches are in connection with allegations of extremist activity in India and fraud offences, the force said.

    A 15-year-old boy from Leicestershire has told the BBC he's found guns, safes and a live hand grenade while magnet fishing in canals.

    Magnet fishing is when you trawl for metal objects in the water. It's a growing pastime, with many people doing it to clean up the waterways but the Canal and Rivers Trust called it "dangerous".

    Army bomb disposal teams are regularly being called out when magnet fishers have found artillery at the bottom of canals and river beds.
