    This is the scene in Trowell where strong wings brought down a tree, crushing a car below.

    Thankfully the man inside managed to escape uninjured.

    It happened on the A609 Nottingham Road in the early hours of this morning.

    The road is expected to remain closed in both directions for some time because of the size of the tree.

    Strikes due to start at the University of Leicester next week have been called off.

    Members of the University and College Union had voted for three weeks of action at the beginning of Freshers Week over proposed compulsory redundancies.

    Talks took place yesterday where managers said they would work to minimise the loss of staff.

    A man has been left shaken but uninjured after this "huge" tree fell on his car during Storm Bronagh.

    The firefighter called to the scene, Ray Burton, said he was "the luckiest person I know".

    It happened outside Swann Carr Farm on Nottingham Road in Trowell at about 02:00.

    The road is still closed in both directions while Nottinghamshire Police and Highways England work to remove the car and tree.
