    Last night Nottingham's decorated robins gathered one more time for a final farewell at Nottinghamshire Hospice.

    The 33 birds, which were part of the Hoodwinked art trail around the city centre this summer, are being displayed around the hospice gardens before they are auctioned off.

    People can now buy tickets to see the birds for the last time over the weekend with money raised going towards the hospice.

    A Derby-based training provider has been referred to police after it announced it has ceased trading - putting 500 jobs at risk.

    The future of more than 3,000 apprentices at 3aaa is also unclear after the firm had its contract with the Department for Education terminated.

    A spokesman for the Department did not go into details of their investigation but said it had referred its findings to the police, through Action Fraud.

    He said a specialist team was now trying to find alternative training providers for the apprentices.

    On its website, 3aaa, said it had ceased trading and apologised "for any inconvenience."

    It said concerned apprentices, parents or employers could email them.

    Ian Grice called a family member saying he was on his way home from work in Rugby at 14:50, but he never arrived.

    A man was left unconscious after a fight in Derby city centre at the weekend.

    Police said they were called to the Charcoal Grill and the Central Library on Wardwick at about 03:30 last Saturday.

    Officers found a 43-year-old man lying in the road unconscious. He was treated by paramedics at the scene for facial injuries.

    The force said two men who ran away were later arrested for assault and have been released under investigation.

    They're now asking for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with them.

    A Leicester man has told the BBC his wife, who was killed in a crash last month, had been his "rock".

    Annette Booth was hit by a car while standing at a bus stop on Woodgate in Leicester.

    It happened on the evening of 29 September following a night of karaoke in the city with her husband Steve.

    The 57-year-old was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where she was pronounced dead.

    Her son Clain told the BBC she had been a "wonderful mum" to him and his brother.

    A 26-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

    A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for four years for driving while disqualified.

    Kam Sahota of Oversetts Road, Newhall, was already serving a three-year driving ban after he was found driving under the influence of alcohol in June, police say.

    However, on Sunday he was seen driving his car in Woodville and stopped by officers and arrested.

    He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Monday.

    He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

    Sports Direct plans to buy the House of Fraser building in Glasgow in a £95m deal.

    The Shirebrook firm has promised to turn the luxury department store into the "Harrods of the North" and safeguard 800 jobs.

    Ashfield District Council has backed a motion to oppose plans for a so-called super-council for Nottinghamshire.

    A case is being prepared to replace the current two-tiered system with a single unitary authority, but Ashfield council voted to oppose it by 25-3 at full council last night.

    Ashfield Labour leader, Cheryl Butler said: "If we have a unitary super-council that the head office is not going to be here in Ashfield, the people are not going to have that local service that they rely on should they need to come and see someone face-to-face."

    It has been said by Nottinghamshire Conservatives that the unitary authority plan could save £30m a year.

    Bosses at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire say they are disappointed the latest plans for HS2 are set to have an even greater impact on the estate than previously thought.

    The National Trust said the working draft environmental statement, external published yesterday showed 2.5km of the high speed rail line cutting through the estate.

    The organisation accused HS2 of having discarded its suggestions on how the line's impact on the historic landscape could be mitigated.

    Denise Edwards, general manager at Hardwick, said: "The current HS2 proposals near Hardwick are wholly unacceptable to the National Trust.

    "They would impose considerable harm on the historic landscape, local environment, our business and the communities around Hardwick.

    “We have put forward detailed mitigation proposals for Hardwick, to limit the impacts of the railway while creating opportunities for nature, people and the historic environment.

    "I am disappointed the statement in no way reflects our proposals or addresses the concerns which we have been raising with HS2 Ltd for many years."

    HS2 Ltd has been approached for a response and we are awaiting their reply.

    About 90 people from Nottingham's business community slept outside on Notts County's football pitch last night.

    It was the third time the national charity CEO Sleepout has held the event at the Meadow Lane ground. It's hoped more than £8,000 has been raised to be shared between three charities.

    Sam Crawford is from homeless charity The Friary - one of those set to benefit financially from the sleep-out.

    He said: “We strongly believe that it is only when our local community comes together that we will be able to make the difference for local people in need.

    "That is why we are so thankful to be involved in this year’s CEO Sleepout Nottingham, which is uniting local leaders from a variety of sectors in the shared endeavour of tackling homelessness in our city."

    The police helicopter's been launched in Beechdale this morning after a suspect abandoned a car and fled on foot.

    Armed officers and police dogs have also been searching in the area around Southfield Road, Nottingham, where the car was abandoned.

    The charity has named New Farm Wood and Watnall Coppice in Nottinghamshire among those at risk.

    Padley Wood, Owlcotes Wood, Robinson’s Lumb, High Wood and Nor Wood in Derbyshire are also named.

    HS2 Ltd previously told the BBC it would be planting over two million new trees, and claimed there would be "more woodland when HS2 is completed than there is now".
