  11. Campbell 'intended to kill teenager' said judgepublished at 15:34 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2019

    Sandish Shoker
    BBC News

During sentencing Justice Nicholas Lavender said the defendants and Lyrico Steede expressed themselves through drill rap music - a lot of which is about knife crime.

He said 20-year-old Campbell appeared in a music video two days after stabbing the 17-year-old singing lyrics about stabbing and how anyone who insulted them would "get ramboed up" (stabbed).

    Stockwell, Bulwell

Justice Lavender said Campbell, a dad-of-one and the "ringleader" of the group, stabbed Lyrico "so many times that I am sure you meant to kill him".

He called Jameson Campbell's "right-hand man" who stood next to him during the stabbing and said while Remmell-Campbell and the 17-year-old didn't carry out the stabbing, they knew about the plan.

Addressing the 16-year-old girl, Justice Lavender said she played a "crucial role in the enterprise" taking Lyrico to the park.

He added: "It must have taken some nerve to lead him there, knowing what was in store for him, but you had the nerve and you did it."

  12. Speed reduction trial abandoned after accidents increasepublished at 15:28 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2019

    Chris Doidge
    BBC Radio Derby, political reporter

A trial 20 mph limit zone in a Derbyshire village has been deemed a failure after the number of accidents in which someone was injured went from none in five years to three in three years.

The area in Padfield, in North Derbyshire, was previously 30mph but the county council reduced it in 2015 under pressure from rural communities.

This means cost-benefit analysis can't be done, because there were no benefits.

The council says 20 mile an hour limits might still work - but only where speed bumps are introduced alongside them.

The Labour-run authority now says the main building work is expected to be done by the end of next year.

  16. East Mids universities 'offer most unconditional places'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2019

    Navtej Johal
    East Midlands Today reporter

Universities in the East Midlands have been giving out more unconditional offers to A Level students than any other region in the country.

A report from England's higher education watchdog says universities and colleges that use unconditional offers to pressurise students into accepting places could be fined or even lose their university status.

    University of Derby clearing team

June Hughes from the University of Derby defended the practice claiming unconditional offers can remove anxiety and provide certainty for students.

But the Office for Students report said they had risen nationally from 3,000 five years ago to 117,000 last year.

In 2017, universities in the East Midlands (except Loughborough University) handed out 8,300 unconditional offers.

More than 100 cases of flu have been confirmed in Nottingham's hospitals in the past week, and we've not even reached the peak of the flu season.

Now, medics have spent a £125,000 on new piece of kit, which can diagnose the virus in around twenty minutes - rather than the traditional method which can take 36 hours.

It's hoped it will reduce the number of patients who may be given antibiotics needlessly, while waiting for the results.
