    The 44-year-old was last seen at his home in Beatrice Road, Leicester but has been located in the city.

    A man is due in court today after a man and woman were attacked with knives during a burglary.

    Police say that two men with knives burst into a property in Philip Avenue, Newark, on 18 January, and caused slash wounds to a 49-year-old man and cuts to a 44-year-old woman.

    A 31-year-old man has been charged with aggravated burglary, causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article and is due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates' Court today.

    Another man, 21, was previously charged with the same offences and appeared at Mansfield Magistrates' Court on 24 January, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 22 February.

    A woman and two boys have been questioned over an alleged attempted robbery in Cotgrave involving a knife.

    Notts Police said the trio, aged 18, 16 and 15 were arrested after money was demanded from another 18-year-old woman in Broadmeer on Tuesday night.

    Mini-forests are being planted to protect homes in Nottinghamshire villages from flooding.

    About 1,700 saplings are being planted in Lambley and Lowdham as part of a national pilot to find natural ways to reduce flood risk.

    The thinking is tree roots absorb a lot of water and provide a rough barrier to rain making its way in to nearby brooks.

    Police have released an image of a woman they want to speak to after a 79-year-old woman's purse was stolen from a shop in Chesterfield.

    The woman had dropped her purse in Packers Row at 13:10 on 4 January.

    Police believe the woman pictured below could have information which could help their investigation.

    A court has heard how 100-year-old widow Sofija Kaczan had "forgiven and prayed" for Artur Waszkiewicz, who today was jailed for 15 years for causing her death.

    Passing sentence, Judge Nicholas Dean QC, said: "Mrs Kaczan would not have wanted her life to be defined by the circumstances of her death.

    "She had prayed for and forgiven her attacker which is testament to the good person she was."

    Waszkiewicz, formerly of Derby, now of Hilary Road, Shepherd's Bush, London, had denied manslaughter and robbery but was convicted at Derby Crown Court yesterday.

    Judge Dean told him: "You are only 40 years old, you will have many years of life left to you after your release, but you deprived Sofija Kaczan of her life so that she suffered an awful death.

    "I hope you will reflect on that in the years you will spend in prison."

    Waszkiewicz bowed his head throughout today's hearing and showed no emotion as he was jailed.

    Police believe a man wearing hiking gear who has not been seen in two days was heading to Derbyshire's Hope Valley.

    James Bell was last seen at his Chesterfield home early on Tuesday morning.

    The 53-year-old was wearing black trousers, a dark-coloured Regatta coat with a blue zip, and walking boots.

    He is also believed to have been carrying the same distinctive orange rucksack as in the picture.

    He is described as 5ft 7ins tall and of medium build with brown hair, and police believe he could have been going to the Curbar area.

    Prior to Artur Waszkiewicz's sentencing, Derby Crown Court was read a statement by Mrs Kaczan's former carer Angelika Cybulska who said she had planned to go on one final holiday with the 100-year-old.

    Ms Cybulska said: "Now she has gone it has taken a massive part of my heart away and I miss her daily. I am so distraught she had to die in this way."

    Artur Waszkiewicz has been jailed for 15 years for causing the death of a 100-year-old woman whose neck was broken in a handbag robbery.

    Sofija Kaczan died of pneumonia six days after being robbed near her home in Empress Road, Normanton, while walking to church on 28 May.

    Waszkiewicz, 40, - formerly of Wolfa Street, Derby, now of Hilary Road, Shepherd's Bush, London - had denied manslaughter and robbery but was convicted at Derby Crown Court yesterday.

    He was sentenced to 15 years for manslaughter and seven years for robbery to run concurrently.

    The jury deliberated for just over two hours before unanimously convicting him.

    This 5ft 6ins model will be on display at the New Walk Museum as part of the Alice Hawkins & Votes for Women exhibition about the suffragette movement.

    The life-size model - named Hope - weighs in at 94kg and is made of around 35,000 individual bricks.

    Hope was made as part of last year’s programme of events marking 100 years of women’s suffrage and has been on a tour of the UK.

    She will be on show at the museum until 28 April.

    A story of a beggar "renting" out his dog to other homeless people in Leicester has got you talking on Facebook this morning.

    Arif Varoji, who set up Help the Homeless Leicester and UK, say people are being conned and urged the public not to give money to people in the street.

    Lis Parsons said: "£3 for a couple of hours... hardly a fortune, is it? Let's focus our anger on the government which has allowed one person in 200 to become homeless, and put pressure on the housing industry to provide affordable accommodation."

    Alison Wheatley said: "Probably pays for dog food. £3 isn't exactly life changing."

    Linda Smith said: "As long as the dog (and the man) doesn't go hungry then it's all good."
