A protest which blocked a road in Nottingham city centre this morning to highlight the problem of climate change has finished.

Members of the group Extinction Rebellion blocked London Road with a banner that read "this is a climate emergency". They held traffic at 10 minute intervals for more than an hour.

The rush hour protest received a mixed reaction, with some supporting and others criticising the group, along with a report that a cup was thrown at them by a passing motorist.

  4. Statins 'don't work well for one in two'published at 08:50 British Summer Time 16 April 2019

    BBC News Health

Research by the University of Nottingham has shown that cholesterol-lowering statins may not work as well as expected in about half of those who use them.

Investigators looked at 165,000 patients and found that for one in two, the drugs had too little effect on bad cholesterol - one of the big risk factors for heart disease.

They are not sure why statins appear to help some more than others .

Researcher Dr Stephen Weng, from the university, said: "Our research has shown that in almost half of patients prescribed statins, they are very effective and offer significant protection against cardiovascular disease.

"However, for the other half - whether it's due to your genetic make-up, having side effects, sticking to the treatment or other medications - we don't see that intended benefit."

Patients have been told they should not stop taking the drugs without seeing their doctor.
