Prosecutors at Leicester Crown Court say Hannah Cobley, 29, silenced the child by forcing something down her throat before wrapping her in plastic bags and leaving her to die.

Peter Cobley told police he spoke to Hannah alone in hospital and told her that their home in Stoney Stanton was being searched.

Mr Cobley said his daughter told him the baby hadn't been alive. He added that he had seen blood by the toilet - where the baby was born - but assumed it was a nose bleed.
