Protesters chanted “Our NHS, not for sale” as bosses arrived for Leicester's Hospitals annual meeting last night.

Campaigners were upset at plans to sell two sections of the Leicester General Hospital site without consultation.

About 40 people gathered outside Devonshire Place on London Road.

Concerns were raised in the meeting about the future of the plans after it was revealed the trust is still some way off securing the required funding.

John Adler, chief executive of Leicester's Hospitals, said: "It’s a bit like one of those Chinese puzzles, a lot of the things we are moving around, rely on a lot of other things moving around."

The trust is preparing a bid for the cash, which they hope to be able to submit next spring.

Residents also asked health bosses about downgrading Leicester General Hospital.

Trust chairman Karamjit Singh CBE said there are "no plans" to disband any services.

A sensory wildlife hide and boardwalk at a Nottinghamshire nature reserve were destroyed by fire on Friday evening.

The wooden structure and boardwalk were built last summer to provide wheelchair access at a popular viewing point.

Erin McDaid, from the Trust, said: "We just don't understand why people can be so mindless.

"We think it was arson because the sheer scale of the devastation suggests it wasn't an accidental fire that got out of hand."

Previous fires in 2016 and 2017 destroyed a specially constructed accessible pond–dipping platform and a reconstruction of an Anglo-Saxon dwelling which had been hand built by volunteers.
