    A collection of antiques has been stolen from Derby Gaol and Police Museum, in Agard Street.

    The museum said crowbars were used to break the locks of the main entrance on 7 August.

    The door frames on the Grade II listed prison cell doors have been damaged and cabinets were smashed and pulled off the walls.

    The items stolen include a bayonet, truncheons and a number of police medals.

    There are calls for more security after a break-in at one of the most historic churches in the East Midlands.

    Thieves smashed ancient stonework on one of the locked doors at the Church of St Mary and St Hardulph in Breedon on the Hill, Leicestershire.

    The break-in happened between 18.20pm on Wednesday and 09:00 Thursday.

    Another locked door and a window were also smashed at the church but it is not believed any items were stolen.

    The parish council wants to put a gate on the single-track road to the church that would be locked in the evenings.

    North West Leicestershire District Council said there was a "fine balance" between keeping the building secure and accessible to the public but added: "We will continue to work with the parish council and the police to look at ways the church can be kept safe and secure.”

    Dog lovers across the East Midlands have been dealt a further blow after the Kennel Club cancelled several events at its annual International Agility Festival.

    The Scruffts and YKC Crossbreed competitions, which were supposed to take place tomorrow at Rockingham Castle, Market Harborough, have been scrapped due to waterlogged fields.

    It comes after some events were cancelled today at the four-day festival.

    The Olympia ABC competition will still take place at Rutland Showground on Saturday, and organisers will take a decision on whether Sunday's dog classes will go ahead.

    An escaped gibbon led to visitors to Twycross Zoo being shut inside restaurants and shops, it has been confirmed.

    People took to Twitter to say the lockdown lasted about 20 to 30 minutes - with one saying they were stuck in a gift shop with about 20 others.

    The Leicestershire zoo thanked visitors for their patience on Thursday afternoon and said the animal, called Storm, was quickly and safely returned to his home.

    A 25-year-old woman has been threatened by a man holding an air pistol and a machete.

    Police said they were called to Beacon Drive, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, on Thursday afternoon.

    A 35-year-old man was arrested and a property on the road searched. No-one was injured in the incident.

    The suspect is being questioned on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of an offensive weapon.

    A man has been taken to hospital after a crash between a car and a lorry.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were called to the collision on the A617 near Upton at 06:45.

    The man's condition is not yet known.

    A diversion via Upton and the A612 is in place. Officers expect the road to be open soon.

    Events on day two of the Kennel Club's International Agility Festival were cancelled this morning due to waterlogged fields.

    The four-day event, which began at Rockingham Castle, Market Harborough, on Thursday, has an estimated 3,000 dogs competing, but dog owners and visitors were told the event had been cancelled at 09:00.

    The Kennel Club has now said Olympia qualifiers will be held at Rutland Showground. The event is expected to begin shortly after midday.

    A spokeswoman said the event was expected to continue at Rockingham Castle over the weekend, and organisers would assess the ground for readiness on Friday afternoon.

    Plans for 148 new homes on farm land off the A60 in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, have moved ahead.

    Outline planning permission was granted by Gedling Borough Council's planning committee on Thursday.

    Fears it could produce a "rat run" between Mansfield Road and Calverton Road were met with assurances there would only be pedestrian access to existing houses.

    Developers Langridge Homes have also been asked for contributions towards local schools and services.

    Fears over high winds has forced organisers of a food festival to cancel its first day.

    Feast Hinckley, backed by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, is due to take place on Argents Mead park in the centre of the town.

    John Coward, who is overseeing the event, said: “With thousands of people expected to descend on Argents Mead this weekend and with marquees and cooking equipment around, we can’t run the risk of anyone being hurt."

    However, the festival will open on Sunday and its hours have been extended from 10:00 to 18:00.

    The rearranged Wildside Festival planned for this weekend has been called off again due to forecast heavy rain and high winds.

    Derbyshire Wildlife Trust had to cancel the original event near Ilkeston earlier this year - also because of bad weather.

    People who bought tickets will be refunded.

    Kate Helps, from the trust, apologised for the disruption but said: "The infrastructure we have on site, particularly the tents, cannot withstand high winds."

    More heavy rain is not a cause for concern, residents and businesses in Whaley Bridge have been assured.

    The town was evacuated on 1 August over fears the nearby reservoir dam could fail and the cordon was only lifted on Wednesday afternoon.

    A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for the area but emergency services said they were in a "much better place to react to any risks".

    Agencies were closely monitoring the dam and water levels behind and residents would be "first to know" should any problems arise.
