    They say if people do not have anywhere to go they can "be accommodated" but capacity is limited.

    Two pubs have opened their doors to those being evacuated from Whaley Bridge.

    The Hanging Gate and The Fickle Mermaid, both in Chapel-en-le-Frith, have posted on Facebook that they are welcoming anybody affected by the evacuation.

    The Fickle Mermaid posted: "Please if anyone needs refuge we are open and will accommodate you all as much as possible.

    "If you can spread the word please do so and we will stay open as long as needed to help out."

    One Whaley Bridge resident has been left without his medication following the decision to evacuate the town.

    Peter Drinkwater, who has lived there for 37 years, said: "I was in the pub at a nearby village having a pint when they told me the town was closed off. It was a shock and I’m a bit worried.

    "I wasn’t at home so I don’t have any of my meds with me."

    He will be staying with his daughter, Cathryn Swann, who said it was "a bit of a nightmare".

    "I’m worried about his garden," she added. "He takes a lot of pride in it. He’s never been away from home so he just wants to go back, but we understand they had to evacuate."

    Police are evacuating the town of Whaley Bridge because the wall of Toddbrook Reservoir dam has partly collapsed.

    Residents have been asked to make arrangements to stay with friends and family.

    Roads and parks around the reservoir have been closed and businesses have shut.

    A man who was stopped in a taxi carrying a loaded sawn-off shotgun has been jailed.

    Craig Roach, 30, of no fixed address, was pulled over by armed police in Colwick, Nottingham on 18 May 2019.

    At Nottingham Crown Court he pleaded guilty to being in possession of an altered firearm without a certificate and was jailed for two years.

    Investigator Kerry Paterson, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: "I’m in no doubt we’ve prevented a subsequent firearm-related incident in Nottingham."

    The National Crime Agency is appealing for the public's help to catch a Nottinghamshire criminal who remains one of the UK's most wanted fugitives.

    John Barton, from Mansfield, was sentenced to 20 years in his absence in 2003 for conspiring to import heroin.

    He is believed to have links to Fuengirola, Spain.

    Holidaymakers in Spain and across Europe are being asked to keep their eyes and ears open to help catch the 63-year-old.

    Police are trying to find a woman who ran to help victims of a hit and run in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

    They have released CCTV footage, external of the woman shortly before the accident at 23:00 on Saturday.

    The accident happened at the junction of Carlton Road and Keswick Road.

    Det Insp Stuart Temple said they would like to thank the woman for running to help the injured people and would like to talk to her about what happened.

    Police said a number of people were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. One man remains in a critical condition.

    Police are investigating after sheep were attacked by several dogs at a field in Cossall, Nottinghamshire.

    It happened at about 22:30 on Tuesday on Robinettes Lane - two ewes were badly injured and others "distressed".

    The farmer, Matthew Woodhouse disturbed the attack when he went to investigate the noise of barking dogs.

    He told the BBC he believes all 16 sheep in the field would have been killed had he not arrived when he did.

    Of the two worst injured he said "one is really struggling still and might have to be put down".

    A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said dog owners are reminded the Dogs Protection of Livestock Act 1953 states that if a dog is chasing or hunting livestock, farmers can shoot it.

    The operator of Derby's shopping centre, Intu, said the proportion of vacant space at the centre is now the joint-highest of all its locations.

    In June 7.1% of the units in Derby were empty, which has increased from 4.8% at the end of 2018.

    Intu owns 17 shopping centres in the UK, including the Trafford Centre in Manchester and Nottingham's Victoria and Broadmarsh centres.

    The firm recently sold a stake in half of Intu Derby to an investment company and said the rest of the centre is effectively up for sale too.

    A charity which takes children from struggling families on free summer holidays said it wants to get back to its heyday of taking hundreds of youngsters to the seaside.

    Leicester Children's Holidays, which took children on breaks for 120 years, sold its Mablethorpe centre last year after it became too expensive to run.

    Instead it slashed numbers and took only 20 children to a private activity centre for a week.

    The charity's vice chairwoman, Jean Lewis, said they're hoping to double numbers this year and want to go back to taking more and more children away in the future.

    "If we possibly can, we want to get nearer to the number of children that we were able to take on holiday every year in the glory years of Mablethorpe," she said.

    "We don't want to see any child in Leicestershire minus a holiday."

    She said they were looking to work with schools who could nominate children who would benefit.

    The moment two bicycles were stolen from a shop in Market Harborough has been caught on CCTV.

    Burglars used a wooden pallet to break into George Halls Cycles on Northampton Road last Wednesday.

    They took mountain bikes worth £650 and a road bike worth £1,050.

    It was the second time the store had been targeted by thieves and owner Neil Holman said he was "shocked and surprised".

    He raised concerns it took 36 hours for the police to respond after the automatic alarm first went off at 05:10.

    Leicestershire Police said: "Police response to calls is assessed on a number of factors including threat to life, harm and risk and the investigation involved.

    "Following initial inquiries with the caller at the scene, the appropriate response was determined."

    Five men have been jailed after they plotted to take guns and ammunition from Nottingham to Leicester.

    Police said on 5 July last year two Leicester men drove to Nottingham to pick up a gun concealed in a sports bag. However they were being followed by officers and arrested.

    Victoria Stather, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said the motive for buying the gun is still unclear but added: "It is likely the intention was for it to be used to intimidate, seriously injure or perhaps to kill."

    The men were all sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday:

    • Luke Francis, 32, of Briarfield Avenue, Nottingham, was sentenced to 15 years.
    • Troy Thompson, 26, of Ebony Walk, Nottingham, was sentenced to 10 years.
    • Sohan Kumar, 29, of Hungarton Boulevard, Leicester, was sentenced to 14 years.
    • Kaya Parker, 22, of Oakley Road, Leicester, was jailed for seven years.
    • Marcus Roberts-Barton, 20, of Buntings Lane, Nottingham, was jailed for 10 years.

    Roberts-Barton and Francis were found guilty of charges of transferring a prohibited firearm and transferring ammunition to another following a trial this week.

    The others had pleaded guilty to the same charges at an earlier hearing.
