A Derbyshire woman who spent five weeks in hospital battling Covid-19 has welcomed the government's decision to cancel plans for a five-day relaxation of national restrictions over Christmas.
Amanda Nadin, 48, spent time in the Royal Derby Hospital's intensive care and high dependency units after falling ill with the virus in late October.
She is now back at home in Whatstandwell and wants people to take the disease more seriously.
"At the time [when the relaxation of Christmas rules was announced] I thought it was madness," she said.
"I saw the strain that staff [at the hospital] were under and the fear over what could possibly come and for me it was the wrong decision to take.
"I understand people really want to see their families but it isn't worth the risk. Five days is too much but one day is still a worry."

Toyota has brought forward its pre-planned festive shutdown at its plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire, as a result of expected parts shortages from transport delays.
The car manufacturer said it had planned to suspend vehicle production for the Christmas break on 24 December for two weeks, but has now decided to close a day early on Wednesday.
Its other plants in Deeside, Flintshire and France will close two days early, from today.
A statement from Toyota said it wanted to "ensure the safety and security of our employees and all our stakeholders, particularly our logistics partners and in consideration of society's wider needs".
It added: "In light of the traffic bans that a growing number of countries have issued for travel from the UK and due to the uncertain nature of how long the borders will be closed for logistics activities, Toyota Motor Europe has decided to come to a controlled stop of its production activities... earlier than the planned seasonal stop."

A Nottingham charity which helps people in poverty is being made the subject of a statutory inquiry after a former trustee, who admitted misappropriating thousands of pounds of funds, was disqualified.
Action Hunger - which was behind a scheme for a vending machine to give food and clothing to homeless people in the city - will be examined over what the Charity Commission called "serious financial and governance concerns".
The commission said it began looking into the charity in August 2018 after a trustee "submitted a serious incident report" regarding money which had been taken from the charity’s bank account.
The investigation into the organisation will probe "wider concerns around the charity’s financial management and the trustees’ compliance with their legal obligations".
