    With the news that Stephen Phillips, Conservative MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham, has resigned his seat "with immediate effect" here are a few key facts:

    • Mr Phillips replaced veteran Tory MP Douglas Hogg in 2010, the man with the cleanest moat in Lincolnshire
    • His majority in Sleaford and North Hykeham is 24,115 - not what you call a marginal seat
    • He joined the Conservative Party as a teenager
    • In 2009, he was made a Queen's Counsel - one of the youngest in the country

    More on the news that Sleaford and North Hykeham Conservative MP Stephen Phillips has resigned "with immediate effect".

    In a statement, Mr Phillips says: "It has been a great honour to serve the people of Sleaford and North Hykeham for the last six years.

    "But it has become clear to me over the last few months that my growing and very significant policy differences with the current government mean I'm unable properly to represent the people who elected me.

    Mr Phillips adds that the decision to resign has been "difficult".

    "I hope that everyone will respect the fct that I have tried to act in the best interests of all of my constituents," he concludes.

    Today's the day that Lincolnshire's Rio athletes are celebrated on home turf. If you want to try and spot our Olympians and Paralympians on the bus parade, here's where you might spot them:

    • 10:30: Lincoln Cathedral
    • 10:42: Monks Abbey School and Lincoln College
    • 10:50: University Bridge
    • 11:10: Ermine Academy
    • 11:24: Mount Street Academy
    • 11:30: Westgate Academy

    A parade's due to take place in Lincoln later to celebrate Lincolnshire's Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

    Developers say the upgrade of the St Marks Shopping Centre will lead to new retail space and flats.
