    The force says it's using "new arrangements" to get the traffic moving again following the crash.

  4. Covid leads to cuts to East Midlands rail servicespublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 22 October 2020

    Nearly 40 East Midlands Railway (EMR) services are being withdrawn or reduced, with the company blaming "a steep rise in Covid-related absences".

    The new timetable will start on Monday, external with EMR saying the changes affect 37 services - about 10% of the total.

    Bosses said the reduction was "designed to safely reduce the number of staff required to deliver its services".

    Regional routes, such as Liverpool to Nottingham, Matlock to Newark Castle and Peterborough to Lincoln are most heavily hit, and some Nottingham to Leicester trains have also been cut.

    Will Rogers, managing director of East Midlands Railway, said: "We have taken the proactive step to make changes to our timetable to protect our most popular services, including those that are relied upon by key workers or those who use our services to travel to work, school or college."

    He said the changes will remain under review.

    The A1 in Lincolnshire will be closed for "the next couple of hours", according to police.

    Officers were called to the collision, involving a lorry and a tractor, south of Grantham at about 06:20 this morning.

    Two men have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    The central reservation was crossed during the incident, meaning both the north and southbound carriageways are affected, officers say.

    The closure is expected to remain in place for the next couple of hours, they add.

    There are long delays for drivers after a crash on the A1 between Grantham and Colsterworth.

    The official diversion is via the A606 and A607 through Melton Mowbray.

    A burglar has raided an antiques shop in Grantham after cutting through the ceiling and a door.

    It's thought about £15,000 worth of jewellery was taken from Notions Antiques.

    Owner Sharon Checkley says watching the CCTV footage of the raid was surreal:

    Police are appealing for help after a bronze, life-sized fox statue was stolen from a garden in Fulbeck.

    The theft happened on Lincoln Road during Sunday night, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    Police say they want to hear from anybody who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area at the time.

    The historic centre of Gainsborough is to get a makeover - thanks to a Heritage Lottery cash boost.

    Properties around Lord Street and the Market Place will be restored using a £1.25m fund.

    Thieves have used farm machinery to carry out a ram-raid on a shop in a Lincolnshire village.

    Using a tractor, the thieves tried to steal the cash machine safe from the Co-op in Billingborough, near Sleaford, in the early hours of this morning.

    However, local resident Barry Foston, who called the police, says the gang left empty-handed because they couldn't lift the safe:

    A woman has died after a collision on the A46 Caistor Road near Market Rasen.

    It happened at about 07:35 yesterday morning in Osgodby and involved a black Mercedes and a white Ssangyong Rodius Turismo MPV, police say.

    The driver of the Mercedes, a woman in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Lincolnshire force.

    Police want any witnesses, or drivers with dashcam footage, to come forward.

    Budding artists are being sought to spread festive cheer in some of Lincolnshire's market towns in the run-up to Christmas.

    East Lindsey District Council is working on a project in Alford, Horncastle, Louth and Spilsby.

    In early December, a projector will be placed in each town opposite a building which will act as an outdoor screen for a short film comprised of artwork designed by local residents.

    Each town has a themed template, but residents can complete as many as they want before the deadline of 6 November.

    The projections will run until New Year's Eve.

    Motorists are being warned about the planned closure of the A159 in Scotter in the run-up to Christmas.

    It affects Gainsborough Road (pictured) and Messingham Road, with a 13-mile diversion in place until the week before Christmas.

    Lincolnshire County Council says the road is in poor condition and the work is now essential for safety reasons.

    A Boston church is looking to transform a former furniture store into a hostel, supermarket and cafe, new plans show.

    Restore Church’s application to Boston Borough Council to change the use of the old Dunelm store on West Street details plans for a "sanctuary", including sleeping pods, use as a night shelter and a kickboxing room and store.

    The plans will form an “accessible community hub” which will provide outreach and residential support for vulnerable adults and the homeless, documents show.

    Project Manager Emma Fawcett said: "The Sanctuary will act as a central point where agencies can come together to support those in need in a holistic way.

    "It will provide long-term supported and hostel-style accommodation, multi-agency meeting space, community cafe, social supermarket and space for social enterprise schemes."

    Organisers say the aims will be “to end homelessness” locally and to “bridge the gap between time-limited supporting accommodation and permanent independent housing”.

    It will be staffed 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week and will offer advice and support, the plans say.

    Police are investigating a distraction burglary in Boston.

    It happened on Kenleigh Drive at about 16:30 on Tuesday, 13 October.

    One man is believed to have distracted the victims, one of whom was a man in his 90s, while another man sneaked into their property and stole a substantial amount of jewellery.

    They're asking for anyone with information about the men's identities, or who saw what happened, to get in touch with the Lincolnshire force.

    A 58-year-old man has been arrested after police carried out a warrant at an address in Friskney, near Skegness.

    Officers discovered at least 500 suspected cannabis plants at the Burgh Road address on Friday.

    The man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and has since been released under investigation, according to Lincolnshire Police.
