Twiggy had lived at Bransby Horses, near Lincoln, since 2002 after being found injured at the side of the road.

The charity say she was a firm favourite, but her health deteriorated as she got older and she would have struggled to get through the winter.

    Quote Message

While it’s never easy to say goodbye to any animal, our founding principle as a charity is to do what is best for the horse every time, and sometimes, sadly, this means putting a horse to sleep in order to avoid it suffering any further pain or distress. It fills me with happiness, however, to know that, thanks to the public’s generosity, we were able to provide Twiggy with 18 years of love and care, ensuring she lived the most comfortable and happy life possible while she was with us.

New lanes and traffic signals have been added to the junction of the A17 and A153 by the town's Rugby Club.

It is hoped the work will improve safety at the junction, which has seen more than 20 collisons over the past ten years.

John Siddle, spokesperson for Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, said: "We have a long history of data from this junction and welcome the completion of the work that has been carried out to make it safer.
