    Police are appealing for help locating a man who has absconded from HMP North Sea Camp, near Boston.

    Charley Oakley disappeared between 05:00 and 07:00 this morning, according to the Lincolnshire force.

    The 27-year-old is serving a sentence for conspiracy to commit burglary.

    Police want anyone who's seen him to get in touch.

    A Lincolnshire service station has received almost £40,000 to upgrade its toilet facilities to help people with disabilities.

    The money, from the Department for Transport and Muscular Dystrophy UK, will go towards making facitilies at Grantham's service station more accessible for disabled people.

    It's part of a £1.27m funding package to improve 37 sites across the country.

  4. Lincolnshire coach company joins protest convoypublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 20 July 2020

    Around 500 coaches, including vehicles from a Lincolnshire company, are heading to London as part of a protest to highlight their plight due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    The Honk for Hope UK movement aims to raise awareness about the industry, which is struggling because of Covid-19 restrictions.

    The UK Treasury has previously said it had provided a "generous and wide-ranging package of support" for businesses.

    It said its job retention scheme had helped a million employers and protected more than nine million jobs.

    People raising money for a new stained glass window at St John the Baptist Church in Scampton say they've raised two thirds of the cash they need.

    The target of £24,000 will also pay for a children's community project alongside the stained glass window commemorating the county's aviation heritage.

    Organisers say they just need an extra push to reach the target and Sqn Ldr Mark Discombe, Officer Commanding the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, says it's worth all the effort:

    A suicide prevention charity will open new facilities in Lincolnshire today.

    The Bearded Fishermen charity has been offering help online during the coronavirus lockdown.

    But today it's due to open a new community hub and call centre in Gainsborough.

    The expansion has been funded by an £8,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.

    Witnesses to two assaults on a teenage girl in Lincoln earlier this month - details of which have now been revealed by police - are being asked to come forward.

    The first attack happened in Hartsholme Park (pictured) at about 16:30 on Wednesday 8 July, when the victim was approached by two other teenage girls who were with two teenage boys.

    One of the girls grabbed the victim's hair and dragged her to the ground before one punched her while the other kicked her, police say.

    The victim managed to walk away towards Keebie Field, near Swanholme, but later saw the group again.

    The two girls again grabbed the victim's hair, threw her to the ground and started kicking her, leaving her with a fracture to her arm.

    Both suspects are white. One is about 5ft tall with blonde hair, the other is about 5ft 4ins tall with brown hair, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    Anyone who saw what happened or who has information about the assaults is being asked to get in touch with police.

    The Collection museum in Lincoln has reopened but visitors are being asked to book a ticket in advance.

    Managers say to ensure social distancing rules are observed they're limiting numbers.

    A one-way system has been set up and interactive displays and touch points have been removed.

    The museum's Visitor Experience Manager, Paul Mason, says: "With all the safety measures we've put in place, being able to offer that reassurance, the feedback has been really positive and given us confidence."

  9. Lincoln Cathedral's new visitor centre nears completionpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

    A new visitor centre at Lincoln Cathedral will open next spring, it has been announced.

    The complex is part of a £16.5m renovation project which includes landscaping the Dean's Green and conservation work on Exchequergate Arch and the Cathedral’s Romanesque Frieze.

    The Reverend Canon John Patrick, Subdean of Lincoln, said: “Lincoln Cathedral has always been a place of worship, hospitality and welcome, and the Old Deanery visitor centre is going to allow us to build upon that reputation, and to be accessible to more people than ever."

    Officials at Lincoln Cathedral predict the improvements will result in an extra 125,000 visitors each year.

    Lincolnshire is set to become home to what's been dubbed "the world’s first robotic farm".

    A consortium, including the University of Lincoln, has been awarded £2.5m to fund the work at the university's Riseholme campus which will see a fleet or robots powered by renewable energy carrying out on-farm tasks.

    The 'Robot Highways' project will investigate ways to address labour shortages, the need for global food production and methods for reducing the environmental impact of the farming sector.

    It is hoped the farm will be up and running by 2025.

    Professor Andrew Hunter, the University of Lincoln's Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said: "We are delighted that the University as part of the consortium has been awarded funding by Innovate UK deliver this innovative and essential work.

    "It is widely agreed that robotics will transform the food and farming industries in the coming years, as producers adapt to meet significantly increased global demand, but there is still so much research and development to be done."

  12. River Witham: Omex to maintain polluted river for decadepublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

    An agricultural company that polluted a Lincolnshire river has been ordered to take a range of environmental actions to help its recovery.

    Ammonia was released into the River Witham in 2018, causing the worst river pollution recorded in the county.

    The company responsible, Omex Agriculture Limited, must help the river and its surroundings with various habitat improvements.

    Omex said it "deeply" regretted the pollution incident.

    The company would "continue to fully cooperate with the regulators", it added.

    Ammonia affected the river and its ecosystems, killing at least 100,000 fish on a stretch from Bardney, near Lincoln, to the Wash in March 2018.

    Omex must make the changes and maintain them over the next decade, said the Environment Agency (EA)

    A man has been been seriously injured in a crash involving two cars.

    The collision, involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and white Renault Cleo, happened on the A17 close to North Rauceby, near Sleaford, at around 22:20 on Thursday.

    Lincolnshire Police say a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    The force has appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

    A gravestone honouring the Dambusters' dog - whose name is a racial slur - has been replaced.

    The 617 Squadron's mascot, a black Labrador, died on the day of its famous "bouncing bomb" raid on German dams in 1943.

    A memorial at the Dambusters' World War Two base, RAF Scampton, bearing the dog's name was removed.

    The RAF said it did not want to give prominence to an offensive term that went against its ethos.

    Sir Edward Leigh, Conservative MP for Gainsborough, said he was "very fearful of our ability today to erase or re-write history".

    A motorcyclist has died after a collision with a car near Bourne

    The collision, involving a black Honda motorbike and a white Ford Transit, happened on Stamford Road, Toft, at about 11:00.

    Lincolnshire Police said the motorcylist, a man in his 50s from the Ruskington area, died at the scene.

    Police are appealing for any dashcam footage or witnesses to get in touch.

    Two men accused of attempted murder following an incident in Spalding have had the charges against them dropped.

    Anthony Madine, 20, of Cradge Bank, Spalding, and Junior Titilawo, 25, of Aspen Green, Huntingdon, were accused of attempting to kill 24-year-old Liam Heffernan in February. They were also accused of possession of a prohibited firearm.

    Both men had pleaded not guilty to the charges in Apirl and had been due to stand trail in September.

    Howevere, during a hearing at Lincoln Crown Court earlier the prosecution offered no evidence against both men on both charges and not guilty verdicts were formally entered.

    Grantham's Christmas pantomime has been cancelled as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

    The production company behind this years festive performance, scheduled to take place in December, said it was a "tough decision" to pull the plug but the health and welfare of all involved was a priority.

    In a statement Polka Dot Pantomimes said: "We believe that you need to experience a pantomime in a packed auditorium with a large audience full of families and friends who can interact with the performers on stage, as well as a company who are able to work in close proximity to one another in the all-singing, all-dancing style that our pantos have become synonymous with - that is the beauty and tradition of pantomime.

    "If we are unable to achieve that this year then we would not be doing the art form justice and would be short-changing our audiences. Therefore, postponing until next year feels like the most sensible, fair and safe option."

    The company said the planned pantomime at Stamford Arts Centre has also been postponed.

    Anyone who has booked a tickets for the show in Grantham will be contacted shortly regarding a refund or transfer of tickets.
