Coronavirus: Lincoln Grand Prix cancelledpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 29 May 2020
The Lincoln Grand Prix has been cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The cycle race which attracts some of the sport's top riders had been due to take place in August, having been postponed from its original date in May, but has now been called off.
In a statement, external organisers said: While we had hoped to move from May to the alternative date of 15th-16th August, we have decided to cancel this year’s race following discussions with British Cycling.
"Suspension of international and national racing in Britain was this week extended to September 1 as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and that means we must now look forward to next year."
The men's race has been running continuously since 1956 - longer than any other race in the UK, organisers claim.
It was feared the 2020 race would not take place due to lack of sponsorship before a two-year deal was been agreed with British cycling clothing firm Rapha.
