    Hare coursers must face tougher sentences, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    It comes after a man was last month fined £140 by Lincoln magistrates for hare coursing in the county.

    Horry Vellam, 19, of Ashby Road, Osbaston, Leicestershire, was also ordered to pay compensation of £250 and £85 prosecution costs.

    Ch Supt Mark Housley says the force is "disappointed" with the outcome of the case.

    Hare coursing has a "significant impact on the rural community", not just in the act itself but also the "abuse and harassment" from the individuals, he adds.

    Two men who were arrested in connection with a serious assault in Spalding on Boxing Day have been released.

    A 30-year-old man was taken to Peterborough General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

    Two men aged 32 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

    Police say investigations are continuing.

    Lincolnshire Police are appealing for the victim of an assault to come forward.

    The assault happened between Clasketgate and Steep Hill on Lincoln High Street at around 03:00 on Friday 22 December.

    The victim is described as white, of medium build with short dark hair.

    This attack came a few minutes after another assault in the same area.

    An 18-year-old man was arrested and has since been released under investigation.

    There are plans to create an artificial island in the middle of the North Sea for use by the offshore wind industry.

    The island would connect a number of wind farms by acting as a central hub for hundreds of power cables.

    It would enable more efficient distribution of power to European countries.

    The company behind the idea, TenneT, says it would also help cut fossil fuel use.

    A four-year-old girl from Scunthorpe is recovering following a dog attack, which required hospital treatment.

    The incident happened at around 20:30 BST on New Year's Eve, at a house in Warley Road, Scunthorpe.

    Paramedics treated the girl for puncture wounds to her face, which required hospital treatment. The wounds are not life threatening.

    The dog, described as a black and white Staffordshire bull terrier, was removed from the scene before the police arrived.

    Despite searches at the dog owner's address and other properties, Humberside Police have yet to track them down and are calling on the owner to come forward.

    Members of a Scunthorpe choir formed entirely of women who have had, or are having, treatment for cancer say it's helped them achieve things they never thought were possible.

    Joanne Sowerby started the Bosom Belles choir two years ago.

    It has since won a North Lincolnshire award, gained support from Strictly Come Dancing stars and helped more than 65 families that have had a cancer diagnosis.

    More patients in Lincolnshire could be cared for at home instead of hospital over the coming year.

    Special Neighbourhood Teams are being rolled out to more areas of the county after a pilot scheme was run in Gainsborough over the past six months.

    It's part of an initiative which will see health care professionals, social services, charities and voluntary groups working more closely together to provide support in the community.

    About 42,000 street lights across the county are currently switched off between 00:00 and 06:00 every night in a bid to save the authority £1.7m.

    North Kesteven District Council wants to find out how signs in the town could be made clearer and more accessible, both for local residents and for tourists.

    Alan Gray, the council's economic development manager, says there's currently a wide variety of signs in Sleaford "which don't give a sense of unity for the town".

    Rail passengers across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire will see an increase in rail fares from today.

    Both Northern, external and Transpennine, external are putting their prices up by just under 5% on average.

    Nationally it's the biggest fare increase since 2013.

    Industry bosses promise money raised will go straight into investment programmes.

    Paul Barnfield, from Northern, says he believes passengers are already feeling the benefits of previous rises.

    House prices in Lincoln have seen one of the biggest increases in the UK over the past year, according to new figures.

    New research by the Halifax shows house prices in the city rose by just over 8% in 2017.

    Elsewhere, house prices in Cheltenham grew at the fastest pace of 13%, to an average of £313,150.

    Meanwhile, Perth, in Scotland, experienced the biggest fall in prices, dropping 5.3% to an average of £180,687.

    Old Christmas trees are to be used to help protect the River Lud in Lincolnshire.

    Louth Rotary Club is collecting trees, external from homes for a £5 donation to local charities.

    The trees will then be given to the charity which runs the Hubbard's Hills beauty spot in Louth.

    The organisation will use the trees to help strengthen the river bank and provide a sanctuary for wildlife.

    The club says it can collect trees from anywhere in Louth and its surrounding villages this weekend.

    Traders have been told the increasing number of people sleeping rough in Cleethorpes' main shopping area will be dealt with.

    Shop owners on St Peter's Avenue have raised concerns about the number of people who are now sleeping out overnight.

    Humberside Police, external say they are working with North East Lincolnshire Council to tackle the issue.
