    The Boar's Head was going to go under plans to knock down the cattle market, but the council shelved the idea.

    The new owners say they've been overwhelmed by the positive response from locals.

    Archaeologists working in the grounds of Lincoln Cathedral have uncovered a water tank built to protect the historic building from firebombs during World War Two.

    The huge tank was installed in the 1940s because of the difficulty pumping water to the top of the hill the Cathedral sits on.

    It was there in case German bombers targeted the cathedral with incendiary bombs, and a blaze needed to be extinguished quickly.

    Archaeologists say it was quite an undertaking to fill the tank, with wartime teams pumping water from the Brayford Pool nearly half a mile away to fill the 600,000-litre tank:

    Raids have been carried out on about 20 illegal rubbish dumps in Lincolnshire.

    The Environment Agency says it's part of the biggest "sting" of its kind in a single day.

    Officers raided sites across the county, including at Brigg (pictured), Caistor and Skellingthorpe.

    Illegal activities undercut legitimate activities, damage the environment and blight communities with fly-tipping, the agency says.

    Plans to give a square in Lincoln city centre a makeover, meaning a tree at the site will have to be cut down, have been defended by the city council.

    City of Lincoln Council wants to demolish a kiosk and chop down the tree in Cornhill Square as part of efforts to turn it into a public space.

    Some local residents have told the BBC it's "a shame" and that "there's no need" to cut down the tree.

    Others have said they're "fed up" councils "find an excuse" to chop down greenery from city centres:

    A pub in Lincoln has beaten off 2,700 pubs to be named the best hostelry in the country for cask ale.

    The Strugglers Inn on Westgate in Lincoln was scrutinised for taste, smell, and temperature of its ales and came out top in all categories.

    Its staff were also grilled over their knowledge of the ales and found to be up to muster.

    The award, from Star Pubs and Bars which is Owned by brewer Heineken, was given at an event in Sutton Coldfield last night.

    A Lincolnshire police officer says two of his colleagues were vomited on and spat at in what he's described as a "disgusting incident".

    Insp Ian Martin says the officers later used a spit hood to prevent further attacks.

    Spit hoods, which are placed over suspects' heads, have previously been criticised for being "dangerous and degrading" by civil liberty campaigners.

    Lincolnshire Police invested in 5,000 of the hoods in April last year.

    Humberside Police say officers were called to Gunness yesterday afternoon (pictured).

    PD Ports, which operates from Grove Wharf, has confirmed that an industrial accident occurred and an investigation has started into what happened.

    It says operations there have been suspended.

    East Midlands Ambulance Service and the air ambulance attended.

    We're told the 54 year old's family have been informed and the Health and Safety Executive is also investigating.

    A teenage girl has been assaulted by a man after getting off a bus in Branston, near Lincoln.

    Police say the assault happened yesterday morning at a bus stop on Station Road in Branston (pictured).

    The 15-year-old girl was getting off a bus and was attacked from behind.

    Her attacker has been described as unkempt, white, fat, over 40, with untidy grey hair and a beard.

    Police are asking for anyone for information from anyone who may have seen the man in the area at around 09:30 yesterday morning.
