A cyclist has died after being struck by a lorry as it turned into a business premises to make a delivery in Grantham.

The red DAF HGV was turning left on Dysart Road at about 16:00 on Tuesday when it collided with the 19-year-old woman, police said.

She died at the scene and officers said it was not clear if she was riding or pushing the blue Apollo mountain bike at the time.

Lincolnshire Police is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police in Boston and Spalding are appealing for witnesses after two separate incidents in which men in cars have asked women to get in to their vehicles.

Both incidents happened on Monday.

The first took place at about 14:00 when a woman was approached on Halmergate, Spalding, by an Asian male driving a white car who asked her to get into his vehicle.

Then, about 50 minutes later, another woman was approached on Tytton Lane West in Boston, by a white male in a grey car who made the same request.

Neither woman entered the vehicles and there was no attempt to physically take hold of them, according to police.

However, Lincolnshire Police says these are are both "concerning" incidents and anyone who may have seen what happened or who has information about them is being asked to get in touch.

Volunteers at one of Lincolnshire's National Trust properties have criticised planned changes to the way the venue is run.

The National Trust is planning to use Gunby Hall, near Spilsby, for holiday accomodation and afternoon teas in an effort to make more money.

The Trust says it has no plans to close the site to everyday visitors, but volunteer Stephen Holdaway says the new proposals aren't welcome:

A Lincolnshire primary school class of 26 pupils as well as five members of staff have been told to go into self-isolation after one child tested positive for coronavirus.

The headteacher at Scampton C of E Primary School notified parents of the move on Monday evening.

The school says children affected will continue with online learning.

As reported yesterday, two other schools have had to send children home in the county.

Critical care nurse Sue Snelson was gravely ill with the virus and was cared for by her colleagues.

The University of Lincoln will host a local Covid-19 testing unit when students return in October, it's been confirmed.

Lincolnshire County Council’s director of public health Professor Derek Ward told BBC Radio Lincolnshire the government has approved the move as part of his department’s work with further and higher education providers in the city.

The exact location has not yet been confirmed and plans are still being finalised, however, council bosses said the unit will be open before the start of term.

It will be available to both University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) students.

Professor Ward said: "Students tend not to have a car and so it’s more difficult for them to get to the Showground, or other places, so we have secured that from government which is generally good news for the county.

"Earlier in the summer we put in a request to put a local testing unit in the centre of Lincoln so that the University, BGU, or anyone else had something located in the centre of the city so we can increase our testing capacity, if we need it."

Staff at a Lincolnshire theatre say it's impossible for them to stage shows inside while social distancing measures due to the coronavirus pandemic remain in place.

Blackfriars Theatre in Boston hosted some outdoor events over the summer, but these won't be possible as it gets colder, the theatre says.

One of the trustees, David Grant, says in it's generally been a "catastrophic" year for the venue.

A lorry driver had a narrow escape after his vehicle overturned and caught fire on one of the main routes into Lincolnshire in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews were told the driver was still inside when they got the call to attend the blaze on the A1 between Markham Moor and Five Lane Ends at about 02:00.

However, the driver had managed to escape before the crew arrived.

The latest data shows Lincoln has a rate almost twice the national average.

Two schools and a bank in Lincolnshire sent staff and students home on Monday after people tested positive for Covid-19.

Over 2,000 people have signed a petition calling for street lights in Lincoln to be switched back on overnight.

Lincolnshire County Council says switching lights off at night has saved money and helped the environment.

Councillor Richard Davies says: "You can't simply keep street lights burning throughout the night across the county if they're not needed. It's an absolute waste of money and it's not good for the environment."

But University of Lincoln student Anna Kincaid, who started the petition, says it's putting people who are out and about at night in danger.

She says: "Turning the street lights off around midnight every night opens up anyone who's walking in that area to the possibility of being in danger, which to me doesn't seem right."

Lincolnshire Police says there's no link between crime and whether streetlights are turned on.
