  17. Lincolnshire's coach firms face 'perfect storm' - Reportpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 14 September 2020

Lincolnshire's coach industry is under "serious threat" due to the coronavirus pandemic and other issues, according to a report to Lincolnshire County Council.

    People on coach

The county council is discussing a report at a meeting today, external which says a "perfect storm of additional operating costs, significantly reduced capacity, reduced income and lower numbers of passengers" could threaten the future of the industry.

One coach operator has backed these claims, warning many businesses will "cease to exist" if they're not given more support.

Steve Mackay, who runs Grayscroft Coaches in Mablethorpe, says their summer trips weren't able to go ahead and the firm has just suffered a big cancellation for around Christmas.

Mr Mackay says: "Without any more financial assistance, there will be a lot of companies that will go under. They'll just cease to exist."

He adds there's also a lack of understanding about the operating costs of the business, because maintenance costs can often be worsened by leaving coaches unused for months at a time.

Lincolnshire County Council says it's considering "the nature of the support it continues to offer to the local bus market".
