The Boston Endeavour School, which will cost £13.2m, is being built on area near the old site of Kitwood Boys School and the Rochford Campus of Boston College.

The new school is to replace the old John Fielding school in the town, which the headteacher says is becoming "cramped" and oversubscribed.

Richard Gamman, headteacher of both schools, says the new school will have an extra nine classes, will be able to accommodate 75 additional pupils and will have more facilities for them.

The school helps children aged between four and 19 who have a variety of additional health, behavioural and educational needs.

Dr Gamman said: "The problem we have at the moment is we're a very small site and just able to accommodate 65 pupils... and a lot of young people from the local area end up having to travel by taxi to Spalding to Horncastle or Spilsby just because we don't have enough space in the town."

  10. Wainfleet dredging begins a year after river broke bankspublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

Work to remove silt from a river which broke its banks and forced hundreds of homes to be evacuated has begun.

    flooded home in wainfleet

The Wainfleet Relief Channel Burst its banks in June 2019, causing damage to 88 homes in the Wainfleet area (pictured).

The Environment Agency, along with Drainage Boards and local authorities have spent the last year working out how to protect the town from future flooding.

One of the methods is removing silt from the river bed to allow water to pass through more quickly.

The Environment Agency says that in places the silt levels are 44cm higher than they should be.

High silt levels increases the height of the river, and cause more weeds to grow, further slowing down the river.

The action was repeatedly called for in the immediate aftermath to the flooding in 2019 but the environment agency say they've had to survey the river and formulate other plans for preventing future flooding.

The dredging, which uses a boat which pumps silt from the bed of the river into a man-made lagoon (pictured), is expected to take about two months.
