  3. Retailers 'shocked' over Gainsborough roadworks decisionpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

Retailers at Gainsborough's Marshall's Yard Shopping Centre say a six-week road closure could have a serious impact on trade at what would usually be the busiest time of the year.

Two-and-a-half miles of the A159 is to be excavated and rebuilt, meaning it will be shut on weekdays from 12 October.

Centre manager Alison Shipperbottom says it's the worst possible time in the run-up to Christmas and wants the work delayed until January.

    Quote Message

Considering the year we've had already I'm really shocked and disappointed that our local authority has chosen to shut one of the main routes into our town at this crucial time of year."

Lincolnshire County Council says the road is in poor condition and it's essential the work is carried out now to ensure it remains safe for people to use.

The road will still be open at weekends, the council adds.
