Read MoreLincoln's new Eastern Bypass, which is due to open this weekend, will bring down pollution in the city centre, according to Lincolnshire County Council.
The bypass is expected to finally open on Saturday after originally being due for completion by December last year.
The project, which links the A158 with the A15, was delayed because of the collapse of Carillion in January 2018.
Council leader Martin Hill says the 4.6-mile stretch of road will shift a lot of traffic out of the city centre.
"Heavy lorries in particular won't be going through the centre, so there'll be less pollution and less traffic and congestion in the city centre as well," he says.
One of the places it is hoped the bypass will reduce pollution is Broadgate, the main thoroughfare through the city.
Currently, City of Lincoln Council targets say the road's Nitrous Oxide levels are 20% above national air quality objectives.

They say they're particularly interested in dash cam footage of the vehicles before the crash.
