1. Lincolnshire escapes worst of Storm Christophpublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2021

Lincolnshire has not received the amount of rain originally predicted during the height of Storm Christoph, the Environment Agency (EA) has said.

Three flood warnings for the River Witham remain in place and North Kesteven District Council says river levels are still rising in their part of the county.

However, Norman Robinson, from the EA, says: "We were expecting probably double the amount of rainfall we actually received, so we received quite a bit of water.

"That is now getting into our river systems which are coping very well."

Lincoln Crown Court heard how 45-year-old Lesley Wilkinson, of High Street, Blyton, near Gainsborough, attacked officers who were arresting her son on the street (pictured).

The court heard Wilkinson was being "aggressive and confrontational" and kicked one officer in the groin and a second officer in the head.

A third officer suffered an injury to his right arm, the court was told.

Wikinson admitted two charges of assaulting an emergency worker in December 2019.

    Quote Message

This court will not tolerate deliberate assaults on police officers. In your case there has to be an immediate custodial sentence."

    Judge John Pini QC

Wilkinson's son, Jordan Kirman, 20, of the same address, admitted obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty.

He also admitted being in breach of a suspended jail sentence imposed for an offence of assault. He was given a three-month community order with a three-month night-time curfew.

  9. Frustration over 80-mile journey for Covid vaccinepublished at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2021

Some people in Lincolnshire say they're frustrated after being told to travel nearly 80 miles for their second Covid-19 jab.

    Boston mass vaccination centre

Several people who are trying to book jabs at the new mass vaccination centre in Boston (pictured) have been in touch with BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

Both the initial jab and the booster jab, which takes place 12 weeks later, have to be booked at the same time.

Geraldine, from Horncastle, called saying she tried to book hers and arranged the first jab, but then was told the second could only be in Sheffield.

She is classed by the NHS as extremely vulnerable and says: "In April, we might not be well enough to go to Sheffield."

Dylan Taylor, from Boston, says it's been a "frustrating experience" trying to book a jab for his mother after having similar results.

He says: "Understandably, mum doesn’t want to travel to Sheffield. She’s a bit worked up and wants to know why she can’t have it locally."

GP Adrian Van Biljon, who's been administering the vaccines in Grantham, says there are two systems for administering the jab - one run by local GPs and surgeries, the other by NHS England.

NHS England says: "Options will be offered based on distance and appointment availability."

  10. Major Lincoln road to be closed for two monthspublished at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2021

Drivers who regularly use one of the major routes through Lincoln are being warned it's going to be closed for more than two months later this year.

    Pelham BridgeImage source, Google

Repair works to extend the life of Pelham Bridge are set to take place between June and August and will last for around nine weeks.

Expansion joints will be replaced, a new course of water-proofing installed, and resurfacing will be carried out.

During the works, northbound traffic will be diverted along the East West Link Road and Tentercroft Street to cross University Bridge and use Newland and Wigford Way to rejoin Melville Street - and southbound traffic vice versa.

    Quote Message

When it became clear we couldn't complete the necessary works with just one lane closure, we looked for a time when traffic would likely be lightest across Pelham Bridge. Thankfully, the newly opened Eastern Bypass is taking traffic away from this route already, and will provide an alternative option for many during the bridge closure. The bridge is also much less busy during school summer holidays."

  12. Lincolnshire river levels drop before more rain expectedpublished at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2021

River levels across Lincolnshire are slowly dropping, easing fears over flooding due to heavy rainfall today.

    Weather Forecast Lincolnshire

But the Environment Agency is still concerned about 30mm of rain forecast to fall in Lincolnshire over the next 36 hours.

Flood warnings are in place for parts of Lincolnshire, mainly connected to the River Witham and its tributaries.

River levels on the River Witham have been steadily dropping since a peak at midnight last night, external.

  13. Skegness hotel alcohol licence revoked over lockdown beerspublished at 11:54 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2021

A Skegness hotel has had its alcohol licence removed after the bar's owner served "pint after pint" of beer to over 15 people in November, in breach of coronavirus regulations.

picture shared on FacebookImage source, Lincs Police / Facebook

The Grovesnor Hotel, on North Parade, had been found to be serving alcohol to people on 13 and 14 November 2020.

At the time, the country was in a national lockdown and the East Lindsey District had one of the highest infection rates in the country.

Police began their investigation after someone sent them a picture (above) of the gathering which had been shared on Facebook.

Sgt Kim Enderby, alcohol licensing manager for Lincolnshire Police, said: "At one point, over 10 men were crammed round a small table drinking and posing for what we think were the Facebook posts.

"There were no face masks being worn by customers or staff, nothing had been put in place to try and prevent the spread of the virus.

The decision means the hotel won't be allowed to serve alcohol when it's allowed to reopen following the current coronavirus lockdown.

The licence holder can appeal against the decision within 21 days of the ruling.

    Quote Message

I thought after 29 years in the police there wasn’t a lot left to shock me, but the way in which this venue was operating was awful."

  14. 'Nowhere immune' from flood threat in Lincolnshire - EApublished at 11:04 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2021

Over a quarter of January's average rainfall is expected to drop in Lincolnshire over the next day and a half, causing flood concerns across the county.

    Flood mapImage source, EA

Environment Agency (EA) experts say "nowhere is immune" from flooding in the county over the next 36 hours.

Heavy rain is expected from this afternoon into tomorrow and it's thought as much as 30mm of rain could fall.

The five-year average rainfall for January is 114mm.

Flood warnings - meaning flooding is expected and people living nearby need to be prepared - are currently in place along the River Witham which runs between Lincoln and Boston (pictured).

    Quote Message

We've had a little bit of rain overnight, but only 2-3mm. The bulk of that rain we expect to see coming through today and into tomorrow morning. We will see river levels rise and it is pretty much across the whole of Lincolnshire."

  15. Lincoln Uni student let off £10k fine over lockdown partypublished at 10:08 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2021

A University of Lincoln student who was fined £10,000 for hosting a house party in the city last year in breach of coronavirus restrictions will no longer have to pay up, police have confirmed.

    Police JacketImage source, PA

In December, police found a party of up to 100 people "in full swing" on Newland in the city and the party's organiser was handed a fine "on the spot", officers said at the time.

However, that fine has now been dropped after "the evidence was reviewed", according to the Lincolnshire force.

In a statement, the force added that it was still working with the University of Lincoln to ensure students act responsibly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ch Insp Andy Morrice added that the university was being "very proactive and supportive" in its approach.
