  4. Accused teen 'lied to hide truth she was travelling with a boy'published at 17:36

    A UK teenager on trial for preparing to commit terrorist acts with the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) claimed she lied about becoming a militant to hide the "shameful" truth that she was travelling with a boy. 

    Silhan Ozcelik, 18, of Holloway in north London, denies a charge of engaging in conduct in preparation for terrorist acts after she left her parents' house for Brussels on a one-way Eurostar ticket in October 2014.

    There's queuing traffic on the M25 between J26 and J27 because of an earlier accident and disruption on the Thameslink tonight between Sutton and Bedford due to overhead line problems.

    On the Underground, severe delays on the Bakerloo Line between Stonebridge Park and Harrow And Wealdstone due to signal failure at Wembley Central, and minor delays on Hammersmith and City Line Westbound due to earlier signalling problem at Aldgate East.

  7. London terror plot 'foiled just before 7/7 anniversary'published at 16:48

    A terror plot to bomb the London Underground or Westfield shopping centre was foiled shortly before the 10th anniversary of the July 7 attacks, a court heard

    Counter-terrorism officers were alerted to the plan after Mohammed Rehman, under the name Silent Bomber, asked Twitter followers for advice on which of the two targets to choose, jurors were told.

    Mr Rehman, 25, and his wife Sana Ahmed Khan, 24, are on trial at the Old Bailey charged with preparing terrorist acts on or before May 28 this year. Mr Rehman is also charged with possessing an article for terrorist purposes. 

    Rehman, of Radstock Road, Reading, and Khan, of Hutton Close, Reading, deny wrongdoing and the trial continues.

    A schoolgirl has been taken to hospital after falling from a building at a Bromley school, external. Emergency services, including Met Police, London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London's Air Ambulance were called to Bishop Justus Church of England School in Magpie Hall Lane earlier today.

    Dagenham & Redbridge produced a great comeback in last night's FA Cup first round replay.

    The football league's bottom-placed club came from two goals down to beat fellow fourth-tier side Morecambe in an FA Cup first round replay.

  10. Manhole explosion in Chelsea causes panicpublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2015

    An explosion under a manhole cover in Chelsea caused panic among passersby earlier, according to an eyewitness.

    Michael Davis told BBC London there was a loud bang on Fulham Road near Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and people ran, shouting: "There's a bomb, there's a bomb."

    The police arrived "really quickly", according to Mr Davis, and everyone at the scene is safe.

  11. Lambeth library staff stage walkout over closure planspublished at 16:00

    Waterloo Library - and every other Lambeth library - was shut on Wednesday after staff staged a 24-hour walkout, external over plans for massive cuts to the service.  

  12. TfL submits plans for 600 new homespublished at 15:00

    Transport for London (TfL) has signalled its ambition as a property developer by submitting planning applications for three sites in Nine Elms, Northwood and Parsons Green which would together create more than 600 new homes.

    Last month TfL said it would build 10,000 homes in a bid to raise £1bn of funding for the capital’s Underground system, trains and buses.  

  13. King's Cross fire rememberedpublished at 14:50

    It’s the 28th anniversary of the King’s Cross fire in which 31 people died in a catastrophic fire which started on a wooden escalator and spread in a flashover which engulfed the Piccadilly Line ticket hall.

    At midday the station fell silent for two minutes as a mark of respect for the people who died. One of those was Station Officer Colin Townsley from the LFB’s Soho station, who was awarded the George Medal for his actions.

    Today firefighters and the families of some of the victims laid flowers at the permanent memorial to the tragedy.

  14. Tooting Broadway station searched by armed policepublished at 14:15

    The Met has confirmed that armed police responded to reports of a man armed with scissors threatening passengers on a train bound for Tooting Broadway Underground station. 

    A search of the area was carried out but no-one matching the description of the man was found, Scotland Yard said. 

    Armed officers have been stood down, but local officers remain in the area. 

  15. Ken Livingstone apologises for 'mental health' commentspublished at 13:59

    Ken Livingstone has now apologised for his comments about shadow defence minister Kevan Jones, tweeting: 

    He had earlier refused to apologise for saying Kevan Jones - who has suffered with depression - needed "psychiatric help".

    Mr Jones called the comments "gravely offensive", and Mr Livingstone faced a backlash from a number of Labour MPs.
