    Most guns in London are held by criminal gangs, but there are concerns extremists are looking to arm themselves with the most powerful of weapons. 

    I spoke to Det Ch Jo Chilton, the head of the National Ballistics Intelligence Service, Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu from the UK Counter-Terrorism Policing Network and Martin Parker form the National Ballistics Intelligence Service.

  2. House partially collapses in Barnes basement conversionpublished at 14:39

    We are getting reports of a house collapse in Barnes, south west London, which was undergoing a basement conversion.

    It is believed the house once belonged to singer Duffy, who had hits with Mercy and Warwick Avenue.

  3. Police release photos in rape appealpublished at 14:32

    Police have released images of two men they want to speak to in connection with a rape.

    The victim, a 22-year-old woman, left a nightclub in Brixton in November 2014.

    She was alone and then got into a silver Audi which stopped on Brixton Road, SW9, to give her a lift, police said.

    Police said she was then driven to an unknown address where she was raped. 

    A 37-year-old man was arrested over the incident in 2014, but no further action was taken against him.

    Police are urging anyone who recognises the men in the photos to get in touch.

  4. Possible strike action could disrupt sleeper services between London and Scotlandpublished at 14:08

    Possible strike action could disrupt Caledonian Sleeper services between London and Scotland over Christmas.

    Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) members working for the service will decide by 15 December whether to launch a campaign of industrial action.

    The union has said it has a ‘litany’ of safety concerns, including broken fire alarms, which have caused delays and cancellations.

    Serco said it was disappointed that RMT members were considering strike action, but that it was committed to continued dialogue with staff.

    A vulnerable woman is fighting for her life two weeks after her care home was targeted with fireworks.

    Donna Stringer, 43, who has learning difficulties and uses a wheelchair, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

    Her care home in Beccles Drive, Barking, was damaged after a fire tore through the ground floor just after 01:00 on 13 November.

    Seven other residents were housed elsewhere but there were no more reported injuries.

    Police are treating the incident as arson and believe several homes were targeted that night.

    "This is a deeply upsetting incident involving an innocent and helpless victim who has severe learning difficulties," said Det Sergeant Karl Dines, from Barking and Dagenham CID.

    "The fire has caused significant damage to the care home and devastated Donna's loving family.

    Giving evidence at his trial for the first time, Aravindan Balakrishnan said Britain was complicit in "killing, torturing, arresting and deporting families", a form of fascism which he said the UK "passed off as democracy".

    "I can talk to somebody raise their awareness, their consciousness but it is they who voluntarily have to do. They are not compelled to do," he told Southwark Crown Court.

    He explained women living in his collective in Brixton were encouraged to only go out in pairs because "anything can happen. They can be beaten up, attacked".

    He said his daughter "didn't appreciate" this "because she didn't know what the condition was."

    Aravindan Balakrishnan, 75, was giving evidence at his trial.

    He denies charges of rape, indecent assault, false imprisonment and child cruelty.

    The prosecution says he kept his own daughter hidden from the world for 30 years.

  11. Man dies after mass street brawl in south Londonpublished at 11:40

    A 26-year-old man has died and two others are in hospital after a mass street brawl in Mitcham.

    The man was taken to hospital suffering serious head injuries after the fight on Holborn Way on Monday evening. He died two days later.

    Another 26-year-old and a 29-year-old remain in hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

    A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody.

  12. Heathrow protest finished and tunnel to reopenpublished at 11:28

    A protest which blocked roads into Heathrow Airport has now finished, the Met, external has confirmed.

    Five people were arrested after activists blocked the inbound tunnel to terminals two and three in a demonstration against airport expansion.

    All vehicles involved in the protest have been recovered and police say the tunnel will reopen imminently.
