  1. Double-decker bus collides with cars and trees in Suttonpublished at 15:47

    A double decker bus collided with two cars and two trees at the junction of Church Hill Road and Hayes Crescent in Sutton this morning.

    The route 93 bus was operated by Go Ahead.

    Transport for London said there would be a full investigation into the accident.

  2. Zac Goldsmith confirms he will resign as an MP if Heathrow third runway gets green lightpublished at 15:32

    The Conservative candidate for London Mayor has confirmed he will resign as an MP if the Goverment gives the go ahead to a third runway at Heathrow.

    Zac Goldsmith said it would be "an act of betrayal" for Mr Cameron to allow Heathrow to expand. 

    The move means David Cameron could face an awkward by-election if the Goverment gives the go ahead to Heathrow. 

    Mr Goldsmith also said he regretted his promise to resign as an MP if Heathrow gets the go ahead. 

     He said - if elected - he would not resign as London Mayor.

  3. Hatton Garden accused 'tried to rip up evidence' court hearspublished at 15:13

    One of the men accused of being involved in the £14 million Hatton Garden raid tried to rip up a note that contained information about the transfer of stolen goods during his arrest, a court has heard.

    William "Bill" Lincoln, 60, is accused of being part of the conspiracy to burgle Hatton Garden Safe Deposit company in central London over the Easter weekend. 

    He was arrested on May 19 after allegedly leaving the car park of the Old Wheatsheaf pub where the stolen goods from the raid are said to have been transferred from Jon Harbinson's car to John Collins's car. 

    Police told the court there was a "pile of torn up paper" on the floor of the car.

    Mr Lincoln denies involvement in the raid.

    Arsenal have won the FA Cup a record 12 times and will be aiming for a third straight victory after they beat Hull in the 2014 final and Aston Villa in 2015.

    Leicester are leading the way in the Premier League but the four-time FA Cup finalists have never won the competition. 

    They face a Tottenham side aiming for a first FA Cup victory since 1991.

    Depot staff handed the parcel over in the end and were very amused, says Brittany Maher-Kirk, 27.

    Royal Mail says it delivers "many items to animals at households and businesses around the UK", adding that it's recommended to put the owner's address on the mail too.

  10. Fatal shooting in Harlesden: Police appeal for witnesses on two-year anniversarypublished at 12:40

    Two years on from the murder of a 20-year-old man in Harlesden, his family continue to appeal for information and witnesses in the hope the killer will be caught.

    Ruth Thomas has made a second plea for the public's help following the murder of her son Rowan Thomas-Williams, 20 who was shot dead on Friday, 6 December 2013

    Rowan was celebrating his birthday the evening he was killed. 

    Police, external were called at around 01:30 to reports of gunshots heard near Mulberry Court, Elgar Avenue, NW10. 

    Officers attended but found no one with injuries.

    Shortly before 02:00, police were made aware Rowan had attended a hospital suffering gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead later that morning.

    The circumstances leading to Rowan's death are still unclear but police believe he was involved in an altercation near Mulberry Court, during which he was shot.

  11. Sexual assault on Bromley bus: witnesses soughtpublished at 12:14

    On Monday 23 March, at around 08:30, a 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man as she travelled on a route 320 bus travelling along Bromley Road.

    Officers have released two CCTV images of the man they would like to speak to in connection with this incident.

  12. CCTV shows teenager being stabbed and punched by six people in Barkingpublished at 11:49

    Police have released CCTV footage of the moment a teenager was assaulted by six people in Barking.

    The 16-year-old was on his way home from Barking station at 19:00 on 16 October  when he was approached by the group. 

    One of the men stabbed him twice in the hand. He also suffered two fractures to his lower jaw.

    CCTV from a nearby shop captured the six suspects chasing the victim across Station Parade and then walk down the road following the assault.

    Police in England and Wales are not adequately prepared to combat so-called honour-based crimes, inspectors say.

    In the first review of police responses, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, external said three forces out of 43 were completely unprepared and only three were fully prepared.

    Well-trained officers capable of spotting victims were spread thinly across England and Wales, HMIC said.

    Police chiefs said they were doing all they could to end honour-based abuse.
