Inside CroydonSutton Council, external, which has allowed planning permission for a massive waste incinerator to be built at Beddington, has received a £5,000 payment from an environment campaigner, external following a High Court challenge to the scheme last year.

Firefighters tackle fire at private members club in the Citypublished at 17:38
Six fire engines and 35 firefighters tackled a fire at a private members club in the City earlier this afternoon.
Image source, London Fire BrigadeOne person escaped unhurt from the club in Cornhill before fire crews arrived around 13:40. The fire was under control by 17:00.
A small area in the basement of the club was damaged, London Fire Brigade, external said.

Travel news: Delays in Crouch End and Bexleypublished at 17:25

BBC Radio London TravelThere are delays on several roads.
The A1201 Park Road in Crouch End is closed due to queuing traffic in both directions between the Middle Lane junction and the Wolseley Road junction due to accident investigation work.
On the A2 one lane is blocked and there are long delays on the A2 East Rochester Way out of town in Bexley between Danson Interchange and Black Prince Interchange because of a broken down bus and an oil spillage.

Man charged after death of van driver in collision with Bentleypublished at 17:10
A man has been jailed for eight years after admitting causing death by dangerous driving after the driver of a broken down van was killed when he was struck by a Bentley.
George Claudiu Albu, 31, of Porchester Road, Paddington, also pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle without a licence and while uninsured.
The incident resulted in the death of 23-year-old Chris Jones.
Driverless cars and intelligent buses: Exhibition looks to the futurepublished at 16:57
An exhibition looking at how Londoners travel across the capital will open on Wednesday.
New London Architecture (NLA) and Transport for London (TfL) , externalwill explore the past, present and future of London's streetscapes through a series of images and videos.
Image source, TfLLondon's Centre for the Built Environment says the capital is forecast to see an extra one million trips every five years, with an increase in the number of people walking and cycling as well as public transport, taxis, freight and deliveries.
The exhibition Streets Ahead will look at short term proposals, such as intelligent transport systems monitoring live data to reduce the impact of road works on traffic flow, or buses using sensors to pinpoint congestion.
Longer term solutions explored in the exhibition will include creating tunnels to reduce traffic congestion and free up living space, driverless cars and greater use of drones.
Streets Ahead: The future of London's roads, external will be on until 24 February.

Four British women have made history after rowing more than 8,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean to raise money for the charities Walking With The Wounded, external and Breast Cancer Care, external.

£200m scheme to reduce bus delays in Londonpublished at 16:23
Transport for London is investing £200m in 116 schemes in London aimed at speeding up bus journeys for people living in the capital.
More than 100 of the schemes will be in place by April .
The new bus priority schemes include changes to road layouts and junctions, and enabling small changes to routes so that buses can avoid traffic hotspots.
Recently journey times were cut on routes in Battersea, Erith and near Camden Road Station by allowing buses to cut across roads.
A bus-only slip road for route 206 buses is being created on Brentfield Road, near IKEA in Neasden, enabling buses to take a more direct route that aims to save roughly five minutes journey time.
RMT union says strike planned for February still onpublished at 16:00
The RMT, external has said it may strike the week commencing 7 February, despite calling off tomorrow's planned industrial action.
The RMT said it still plans to take action as this dispute relates to station staffing, which has not been resolved in talks.
Tube Strike: RMT vote not to take action tomorrowpublished at 15:48
BreakingThe Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, external says it will no longer carry out industrial action on the Tube network tomorrow evening.
Three other unions had already decided not to strike for 24 hours over pay, rotas and plans for the Night Tube.
The BBC's transport correspondent Tom Edwards says this means the "catatonic Night Tube will be resuscitated".
Connor Wickham: Crystal Palace striker charged with violent conduct by FApublished at 15:32
BBC SportCrystal Palace player Connor Wickham has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association after clashing with Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen on Saturday.
Wickham, 22, appeared to elbow Belgian defender Vertonghen in the face during a tussle at a second-half corner.

Wickham has until 18:00 tomorrow to respond to the charge.

The piece was the latest work by the elusive artist criticising Europe's handling of the refugee crisis.

Plane Stupid defendants told to expect jail after guilty verdictspublished at 14:57
Thirteen people from the campaign group Plane Stupid, which is against airport expansion, have been found guilty of aggravated trespass and entering a security restricted area at Heathrow Airport.
The defendants were found guilty of cutting a hole in a fence and chaining themselves to railings in July.

There were gasps from the public gallery when the verdicts were read out with one person shouting "this is a farce".
