    Union sources say a meeting of RMT representatives have recommended that tomorrow's Tube strike should be called off.  

    The final decision will be made by the RMT executive this afternoon.

  3. London Thai takeaway worker set up successful IT businesspublished at 13:03

    Mark Furness told the BBC he had "hit rock bottom" while working in a Thai restaurant in London.

    Having left his job in Liverpool, he lived on just £5 a week after bills and rent, surviving on Thai takeaways and cereal. 

    After two years, he launched his own company - Essensys - which allows small and medium-sized firms, and shared office spaces, to easily outsource all their IT requirements.  

    Today Essensys is the second-fastest growing IT firm in the UK, according to business magazine Inc.    

  4. Record rowers arrive Down Underpublished at 12:32

    A team of female rowers have arrived in Australia nine months after setting off from San Francisco to cross the Pacific Ocean.

    Three Londoners were part of The Coxless Crew, external, which rowed out under the Golden Gate Bridge in April last year.

    After 257 days at sea, with supply stops in Hawaii and Samoa, their 29ft boat, Doris, crossed the finish line at Cairns just before 01:00 GMT.

  5. Car crashes into shop in Crouch End: Driver arrested on suspicion of drugs offencespublished at 12:12

    A car has crashed into a shop at Park Road in Crouch End, and police have arrested the driver on suspicion of drugs offences.

    The Met, external said an unmarked police car had attempted to stop the driver before the crash at about 10:20.

    The driver attempted to run away and was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences. He remains in custody.

    A large quantity of what are believed to be drugs have been recovered from the scene, police said. 

  6. Man who died in Croydon stabbing namedpublished at 11:50

    A man who died after being stabbed at a recreation ground in south London has been named by police

    David Darko was found unresponsive on Saturday evening at South Norwood Recreational Ground, close to Tennison Road.

    Emergency services treated him for a  stab wound but he died at the scene.

    The 21-year-old was from South Norwood, police, external said.

    No arrests have yet been made.

  7. Watch: 'Temporary' Eye keeps on spinningpublished at 11:35

    It was expected to be a temporary structure to celebrate the Millennium but The London Eye is now into its 16th year having had more than 60 million people enjoy the views from it.

    After weeks of engineering works it is now back in action and BBC London's Sarah Harris went along to speak to operations manager Simon Ingram and local Nick Thomas who had taken his friends to enjoy the view.  

  8. 'Bright sunlight' blamed for Southeastern trains delays againpublished at 11:20

    For the second time this month passengers using Southeastern Trains, external have been told their journeys have been delayed because of "bright sunlight".

    This time it happened at Herne Hill, where passengers claim they were held up for 15 minutes at 9am because the driver couldn't see the monitors on the platform.  

  9. Wenger - 'Costa cost us again'published at 11:07

    Arsene Wenger said his Arsenal side had again fallen victim to Chelsea's Diego Costa after Per Mertesacker's "harsh" red card in Sunday's defeat.

    Mertesacker was sent off in the 18th minute after tripping Costa - who scored the only goal in Chelsea's win.

    "Costa has got two of our players sent off in the last two games against Chelsea," said Wenger.

    "Is the decision right or wrong? I don't know. That is a fact, without accusing him of anything."

  10. Antarctic explorer from London dies in solo attempt to cross continentpublished at 10:31

    Explorer Henry Worsley has died while attempting to travel solo across the Antarctic, his family has announced.

    The former 55-year-old Army officer from Fulham was 71 days into his historic attempt to cross the Antarctic unaided. 

    Announcing the news, his  wife Joanna spoke of her "heartbroken sadness" and said he had died following "complete organ failure".

    Mr Worsley was hoping to complete Sir Ernest Shackleton's unfinished journey to the South Pole to become the first person to cross the Antarctic unaided.

  11. Tube strike: RMT union to meet this morning to make decision on strike actionpublished at 10:04

    The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union's leaders are to meet this morning before deciding whether this week's Tube strike will go ahead.

    Three other unions have recommended that the action should be suspended but as it stands RMT members are due to walk out tomorrow evening for 24 hours over pay, rotas and plans for  Night Tube.

  12. Drogba not returning to the Bridgepublished at 09:45

    Didier Drogba is to remain with Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact, ending speculation the striker could return to Chelsea.

    Montreal announced that Drogba would join their pre-season training camp.

    And the 37-year-old tweeted: , external "On way to Qatar to do some preparation work for pre-season."

    Drogba held talks with Chelsea in December amid rumours he could join the club's coaching staff.

  13. Banksy artwork appears on a wall opposite London French embassypublished at 09:31

    A new artwork by Banksy criticising the use of teargas in the "Jungle" refugee camp in Calais has appeared on a wall opposite the French embassy in London.

    The mural depicts the young girl from the musical Les Miserables with a can of CS gas beneath her.

    The artwork includes an interactive QR code which, when scanned, links to a video of teargas and rubber bullets used in a police raid on 5 January.

    It is the latest in a number of artworks painted by the elusive graffiti artist criticising Europe's handling of the refugees crisis.
