    There were wins for Londoners at last night's Oscars ceremony.

    Sam Smith won best original song while London-based designer Jenny Beavan, who worked on Mad Max, picked up the award for best costume design.

    Amy Winehouse documentary Amy won the best documentary feature Oscar for British filmmakers Asif Kapadia and James Gay-Rees.  

    Elsewhere, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar for survival epic The Revenant while Brie Larson was named best actress Oscar for Room.

    London mayoral candidate for the Green Party Sian Berry accuses Prime Minister David Cameron of "inhumanity" for refusing to use £2.5bn of EU funding to help homeless people in the capital.

    She says Mr Cameron "opted the UK out of this [EU] scheme in 2013 and has refused to apply again despite pleas from poverty campaigners across the country".

    Rough sleepers include people who come to work from Europe and are unable to be helped into new jobs by homeless charities relying on benefit payments to cover the costs of hostels and advice, she says.

    A mock-up disaster in Dartford is simulating a tower block collapsing on Waterloo station to give emergency services a chance to practice their protocol in the real event. 

    The exercise involves real tube carriages and 2,000 volunteers playing the part of casualties.

    Tottenham's players are not talking of winning the Premier League title, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

    Spurs are second in the table, two points behind leaders Leicester after coming from behind to beat Swansea 2-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

    The wellbeing of people in their 60s increases as they reach the age of 70, according to a national survey by University College London.

    That is despite many people in the age group having at least one chronic disease.

    Participants were asked to rate how confident, cheerful, relaxed and useful they felt in their early 60s and then again aged 68 to 69.

    A woman suffered "life changing injuries" when she was dragged along the platform at West Wickham station in south London by a departing train, according to an independent report by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB), external.

    On 10 April last year, the strap of her backpack was caught in the doors as they were not open long enough for her to gather her belongings and get off the train, a 11:00 GMT Southeastern service from London Cannon Street to Hayes, it says.

    It says 21 other trains had a similar fault.

    The driver, a trainee, and the instructor in the cabin should have seen the woman was trapped via CCTV monitors but didn't, says the RAIB.

    The train drivers' union Aslef says the Heathrow Express trains - class 332 -  have been withdrawn for checks after a crack was found in the under frame of one train on Sunday.

    The majority of Heathrow Express trains have been taken out of service due to a technical issue as a safety precaution, a spokeswoman for the service says. 

    A non-stopping service which takes 15 minutes will depart every 15 minutes between Paddington and Heathrow over the next 48 hours, served by Connect service trains, meaning the latter is suspended.

    Pre-bought Connect tickets - which are cheaper than Heathrow Express - will be accepted on the amended Express service, it says.

    But Connect passengers wishing to buy tickets today will have to take the 140 bus to Hayes and Harlington, then a Great Western Railway train, or pay £17 for a single ticket on the Express or £28 for a return.

    In case you missed it yesterday, a large fire in south London in the early hours of the morning led people to fling themselves out of first and second floor windows in the dark and climb down a drainpipe to escape.

    The blaze started in a three-storey terraced property converted into flats in Northlands Street, close to King's College Hospital, at about 04:30 GMT.

    Two candidates for mayor have promised housing for "Londoners first". But how do you define a Londoner?

    Zac Goldsmith, the Conservative contender, wants to "give Londoners the first chance to buy new homes built in London". He says this would mean having lived or worked in London for at least three years.

    Labour's hopeful, Sadiq Khan, has pledged to "deliver more affordable homes, and 'first dibs' on those homes for Londoners". He says that means anyone currently living or working in the city.

    All Heathrow Connect trains between Paddington and Heathrow Airport have been suspended due to a safety inspection of the trains. 

    This is because Heathrow Express trains are down, so the Connect trains are being used to cover the faster Express service. 

    Tickets are being accepted on Great Western Railway, local bus routes and London Underground services.

    There has been a sharp rise in the number of days junior doctors in London were signed-off with stress, anxiety and depression, the BBC has learned.

    Days lost through these absences have risen by 159% since 2011, figures from 21 London hospital trusts show.

    Unfilled rotas means more pressure on the remaining staff, the chair of the BMA Junior Doctors Committee Dr Johann Malawana said.

    NHS Employers said more specialist help was now available.
