    A family court judge has ruled that four children must be immunised after their Muslim mother refused to consent because she said vaccines contained pork gelatine. 

    Judge Carol Atkinson said the youngsters - boys aged six and nearly eight months and girls aged four and two - had a "variety of outstanding immunisations". She did not say what diseases the immunisations related to.

    The children had been living with their mother, who is British, in London. 

  2. Woman injured after being hit by a bus in Parliament Squarepublished at 12:00 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2016

    A woman has been treated for head and leg injuries after she was hit by a bus near Parliament earlier.

    London Air Ambulance arrived within three minutes of being called out just after 09:30 and the victim has been taken to a major trauma centre for treatment. No other details are yet known.

    Barcelona have "two or three players who transform normal life into art", says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.  

    The Gunners went out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the sixth straight season after a 5-1 aggregate loss against Barcelona.

    The La Liga side's front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez were all on target.

    "In the final third, Barcelona's passing accuracy and creativity is exceptional," said Wenger.

  5. Duke in London for St Patrick's Day Paradepublished at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2016

    The Duke of Cambridge will visit the Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow, west London, where he will present more than 600 soldiers with traditional shamrock during a St Patrick's Day parade. 

    William, who is the Colonel of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, will greet 450 serving soldiers at the ceremony along with 150 association members and Army Cadets from Northern Ireland.

    The parade will mark the first time the full battalion has been able to celebrate St Patrick's Day in five years, due to previous commitments serving on the front line in Afghanistan and Iraq, and more recently in operations in Bosnia, Oman and Kenya. 

    The Duke will also present a sprig of shamrock to the regiment's mascot, a four-year-old Irish wolfhound named Domhnall, which is Gaelic for "world leader".

  6. Night Tube service to 'launch end of July'published at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2016

    London Underground's all-night Tube service is set to begin in July, Boris Johnson has said. 

    The London Mayor said he was given the approximate launch date by Transport for London (TfL). 

     Asked if the wait for the night Tube would end in July, he replied: "Well, that's what I'm told by TfL - towards the end of July." 

    Passengers will be able to travel through the night on Fridays and Saturdays on the Victoria, Jubilee, Central, Northern and Piccadilly Lines.

    A father from east London has called for head teachers to do more to tackle cyber-bullying on social media after his daughter was "baited out".

    The "baiting out" footage, which has attracted thousands of YouTube views, involves youths naming teenagers and accusing them of sexual promiscuity.

    The dad said his 14-year-old daughter had been subjected to "cruel" bullying, which had damaged her confidence.

    Two men, aged 23 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was run over on a bicycle.

    The 39-year-old officer needed hospital treatment after being struck as he attempted to stop a car as it travelled through Peckham on yesterday afternoon.

    Conservative councillors in Wandsworth turned down the opportunities to accept its damning failure of children service were "unacceptable" or to create "a more transparent and open culture across the council".

    It came amid mounting criticisms of the authority after independent inspectors Ofsted gave the service its lowest rating possible.

    RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "The hostile and aggressive attitude by Tube bosses has collapsed the normal negotiating process and the strike action goes ahead exactly as planned. 

    "The wholesale abuse of procedures and agreements by management on the Piccadilly line is rife and amounts to the development of a campaign of bullying, harassment and intimidation that the union will not allow to continue." 

  11. Piccadilly strike: 'Completely unnecessary'published at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2016

    A pre-Easter strike by drivers on one of London Underground's busiest lines looks set to go ahead after union leaders said peace talks had broken down.

    Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union on the Piccadilly line are due to walk out for 24 hours from 21:00 next Wednesday and stage two more strikes next month. 

    The union claims there has been a "comprehensive breakdown" in industrial relations.

    Pat Hansberry, operations director for London Underground, said: "This threat of strike action is completely unnecessary. We urge the union leadership to work with us constructively on the issues they have raised so that we can resolve this dispute." 

    Services will be disrupted from early evening on Wednesday and all day on Thursday 24 March if the strike goes ahead.

    A cycle patrol policeman has been "deliberately" run over in south London, the Metropolitan Police said. 

    The 39-year-old officer needed hospital treatment after being struck as he attempted to stop a car as it travelled through Peckham on yesterday afternoon. 

    Detectives said he was "extremely fortunate" to have escaped without serious harm, although he sustained arm and leg injuries in the collision. 

    The officer, from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC), was on patrol in Kennington Park Road, SE11 at around 14:45 yesterday when he tried to stop a black Vauxhall Meriva.

    The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are to take a family outing to London Zoo to mark the launch of a new lion enclosure. 

    The Queen will open the Zoological Society of London's Land of the Lions exhibit, which will home four endangered Asiatic lions. 

    The royal pair will view the lions in their new enclosure and meet the ZSL exhibit delivery team, zoo keepers and members of a conservation group.

    Tow lanes are closed on the A40 Western Avenue into town in Perivale at Medway underpass because of a serious accident. Hillingdon Circus is also congested.
