Coming up on air tonight at 18:30, BBC London's Tom Edwards will have more on the calls for greater enforcement of the rules surrounding the use of drones, after one struck a British Airways jet coming into land at Heathrow yesterday. 

The aircraft travelling from Geneva with 132 people on board landed safely but there are fears that the incident could have been catastrophic. 

Today the Met revealed the aircraft was flying at 17,000 feet above Richmond when it was hit. The collision is the latest and most serious in a string of incidents involving drones at the UK's busiest airport.

Hundreds of stuffed owl toys have been produced and sold to celebrate the extension of London's night Tube.

The service will start in July, according to London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Tooting the Night Tube Owl began appearing on signs at London Underground stations shortly before last September's scheduled extension of running hours, in an attempt to direct people to the new services.

Transport for London (TfL) also ordered more than 2,000 cuddly toys to mark the occasion.

Firefighters have evacuated around 400 people following a gas leak at a building site on Queens Drive in Haringey. 

People were evacuated from a block of flats next to the building site.

There is severe disruption on the M25 Kent as there is one lane closed on the road anticlockwise between J3, M20 and J2, A2 due to a broken down lorry. 

And on the A406 northbound there is queuing traffic at Beckton Roundabout due to an earlier accident. All lanes have been reopened. 

On the Tubes, trains are not stopping on the Bakerloo Line at Paddington due to engineering works. 

And there are some cancellations possible on the Gatwick Express between Victoria and Gatwick Airport due to a staff shortage. Tickets being accepted on London Underground and Thameslink services.

The head of David Cameron’s review into racism in the justice system has criticised the lack of a black police chief as “bringing the system into disrepute”. 

David Lammy, Labour MP for Tottenham, said:, external “We have policing by consent. That requires every citizen to stand alongside the police. So for practical reasons alone, we have to have police who reflect and look like the community.”

England rugby star Danny Cipriani had "glazed" eyes and his breath smelt of alcohol after he crashed his Mercedes car into a taxi, a court has heard. 

The car was travelling "very fast" and "swerving and swinging" between the left and right hand sides of the road, and hit a silver Toyota Prius which had slowed down to try to avoid it, it is alleged.

The taxi driver, Muhammad Qasim, said he suffered injuries to his neck, shoulder and lower back in the crash on Imperial Road in Fulham, west London, at 05:15 on 1 June last year.

Mr Cipriani from Raynes Park in south-west London, is on trial for London's Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with drink driving, which he denies.

A "violent" man who fled while on escorted leave from a mental health unit has now been missing for a week. 

Detectives made renewed appeals on Monday to try and find Cornell Destouche who vanished after he jumped out of a minicab when it stopped at a junction in Walthamstow on April 10.

The 25-year-old, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, was detained under the Mental Health Act in July 2014 for the attempted murder of a police community support officer. 

Members of the public have been warned not to approach Mr Destouche and to call 999 if they spot him.

The mother of a 17-year-old boy who died in a canal has told her son's inquest she now wishes she had not called the police for help. 

Anna Susianta's son Jack, a student, died in a canal at Walthamstow Marshes in July last year. 

Witnesses have claimed police refused to enter the water to save him but the Met Police has denied this, saying one officer risked his life and entered the water.

Jack's mother told jury at St Pancras Coroner's Court that before his death her son Jack had showed no sign of wanting to harm himself, adding: "He only talked about getting away from people."

Lisa Day, 27, from West Hampstead, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and developed an eating disorder as a teenager, purposely missing her life-saving insulin jabs in order to drop dress sizes.  

Miss Day's mother Doreen Proud said: "There are so many Lisas out there, they are being missed. She was diabetic, and by right she should still be alive, but all I've got are her ashes."

David Walliams has apologised if fans have not received replies from him, saying his post was stolen, including a "large box of letters from children".

A member of the public had found items of discarded mail in Camden on 8 April, said the Met Police.
