    Sir Michael said of Corbett: "What you saw is what you got. He was modest, self-effacing, a brilliant comic."

    The entertainer died last month aged 85 having been diagnosed with a suspected form of motor neurone disease.

    Undressed is the latest exhibition from the Victoria and Albert museum, charting the history of the undergarment. The exhibition houses over 200 pieces ranging from Y-fronts to the first ever bra.

  6. Man aged 70 stabbed in a shop in Walthamstowpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A 70-year-old man was stabbed in a shop in Waltham Forest last night, police say. 

    Police in Waltham Forest were called to a shop in Carr Road, E17 by London Ambulance Service at 21:10 last night.

    The man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service where he remains in a critical condition. Police described his stab injuries as serious. 

    One line of inquiry police are following is that the victim was stabbed following an attempted robbery. 

    Three suspects, described as white males aged in their mid-twenties, were seen to leave the premises immediately after the stabbing.

    Greenpeace protesters continue their work this morning to highlight "dangerous levels" of air pollution in the capital. 

    They placed a face mask over Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square.

  9. Disruption at Victoria Station after seven platforms closedpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A signal failure at Victoria Station meant rail commuters faced delays and cancellations this morning. 

    Seven of Victoria's 19 platforms were closed, meaning fewer trains could operate to and from the station.

    The incident began in the early hours of the morning, causing major disruption to Southern and Gatwick Express services. 

    Engineers were unable to fix the issue until 08:30 and delays are expected to continue throughout the day.

    Nibbs, 69, became enraged after vivacious and caring Meals On Wheels worker Judith Nibbs, 60, taunted him as their relationship fell apart by saying she had been seeing other men.

    The cancer sufferer claimed he had acted in self defence, but a jury found Nibbs guilty of murder following an Old Bailey trial. 

     His lawyer Ian Henderson QC told the court that his client acknowledged that his ill health meant he would die in jail.

    The Recorder of London Nicholas Hilliard QC said: "I'm sure you don't regret your wife's death save for its effect on your own comfort and well-being."

    Dempsey Nibbs, aged 69, has been jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years after being found guilty at the Old Bailey of beheading his partner Judith Nibbs and flushing her head down the toilet.

  15. Watch: stand-only escalators 'ease congestion'published at 09:59 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    An experiment by Transport for London has found congestion is eased when commuters stand on, rather than walk up, escalators.

    The trial is now being extended for a further six months at Holborn, one of London's busiest underground stations.

    Many stars of the broadcast industry will be at comedian Ronnie Corbett's funeral today. 

    But Sir Bruce Forsyth, who performed alongside the late comedian, is understood to be too ill to attend as he recovers from surgery. 

    Jimmy Tarbuck, Mr Corbett's friend and fellow comedian, is expected to join the service.

    Mr Corbett became a household name in the 1970s alongside Ronnie Barker in their TV show, The Two Ronnies, and continued to appear on screen into his 80s. 

    He leaves his wife Anne Hart, who he was married to for 50 years, and daughters Emma and Sophie.

    The funeral of comedian Ronnie Corbett will take place in Croydon today, after he died last month aged 85.

    His funeral will take place at the St John the Evangelist Church near his home in Shirley before the service moves on to a local crematorium.

    It will be followed by a private wake at a nearby golf club.

  18. Police investigate after BA plane 'hit by drone'published at 08:51 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A police investigation is under way after a passenger plane approaching Heathrow Airport was hit by what is believed to have been a drone.

    The British Airways flight from Geneva, with 132 passengers and five crew on board, was hit as it approached the London airport at 12:50 BST on Sunday.

    If confirmed, it is believed to be the first incident of its kind in the UK.

    BA said it would give the police "every assistance with their investigation". No arrests have been made, police said.

    Four people have been arrested after activists from environmental group Greenpeace scaled a number of London monuments to highlight what it says are dangerous levels of air pollution.

    Protesters placed surgical masks over famous London statues, including Eros in Piccadilly Circus and the Oliver Cromwell statue at Parliament.

    About six climbers scaled the 52m Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square.

    The group says it plans to target 17 statues in the capital on Monday.
