Members of the LGBT business community met with police chiefs to discuss security issues after the gay nightclub shooting in Florida on Sunday.

Met Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said the threat level has not risen since the "shocking" attack but warned people to stay alert.

Michael Salter, chairman of Pride, said he is "hoping that there will be huge numbers of people coming to the events - not just to pay their respects to the Orlando victims but for LGBT community in the UK."

A pensioner has pleaded not guilty over a knife attack at a Hampton car park that left four women in hospital.

Ethem Orhon, 66, is accused of stabbing the women outside a Sainsbury's supermarket on 20 May.

The women, aged 53, 62, 67 and 71, were allegedly targeted as they got out of their cars.

Appearing at Kingston Crown Court via video link from Belmarsh Prison, Mr Orhon, of Deacons Walk, Hampton, pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder and two of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will stand trial on 31 October and was remanded in custody.

Arsenal goalkeeper Ryan Huddart has joined National League club Eastleigh on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old was Arsenal's first-choice keeper in the under-18s Uefa Youth League campaign last season.

He was also named as a substitute by Arsene Wenger for two Champions League group matches against Borussia Dortmund and Galatasaray in 2014.

The Prince of Wales was presented with a pair of decorative ballet shoes as a birthday gift for the Queen when he visited the Royal Ballet School.

Charles, who has been president of the Royal Ballet since 2003, watched a performance by the school's young dancers during a tour of its White Lodge campus in Richmond Park.

He visited classrooms and watched a group at work in a dance studio before being treated to performances by the school's pupils, some of whom will showcase their work at the Royal Opera House next month.

The creation of a new car park for private hire vehicles near Heathrow Airport has sparked a row between its owners and black cab drivers.

It is being trialled after complaints from residents about drivers parking in roads and anti-social behaviour.

Black cab drivers claim the car park represents a "virtual rank" which threatens their trade, and say it is a "reward" for bad behaviour.

Heathrow Airport says it is trying to resolve a local issue.

Police have told residents in one of London’s most affluent neighbourhoods they should arm themselves, external with “keys and umbrellas” after a string of street robberies.

The result of last month's London Mayoral election on 5 May was delayed by several hours after staff had to manually query a bug-stricken database.

One of the firms behind the software, DRS, revealed new details of the mishap at the London Assembly on Thursday.

Staff had to collate discrepancies in a spreadsheet, rather than automatically, when tallying final results, said chief executive Steve Gowers.

League One side Charlton Athletic have signed Lee Novak following the striker's departure from Birmingham.

The 27-year-old has agreed a three-year contract at The Valley and becomes the Addicks' third signing of the summer.

"Lee has shown a consistency at both Championship and League One level and is a proven goalscorer," Charlton boss Russell Slade told the club website., external

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found collapsed outside a building in barking on Wednesday night.

Police said, external they were called at about 20:20 and found the 48-year-old outside Crispe House on Dovehouse Mead.

He was taken to an east London hospital where he died yesterday. His next of kin have been informed and a post mortem will be held on Saturday.

The 40-year-old man had been arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm before the man died, but had been further arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is currently in custody at an east London police station.

Great Western Railway , externalsay more than half its services are running through the Thames Valley, but services are busier than normal.

A spokesperson said the firm "expect to run close to a full service over the weekend, with a small number of changes to the normal timetable".

London's first History Day will be held on the anniversary of Big Ben's first day in operation.

It will be first celebrated on 31 May in 2017 with celebrations and events run by Historic England.

The date was decided upon after a poll involving 1,000 Londoners. It was closely followed by 5 September - the date of the Great Fire of London.

The YouGov questionnaire also declared the Houses of Parliament as the building that best sums up London.

An amateur musician attacked by a knife-wielding extremist has hailed the "extraordinary" bravery of those who helped at the Tube station where he was stabbed.

Lyle Zimmerman was travelling to Leytonstone to play with a band on 5 December 2015 when he was attacked by Muhiddin Mire as they approached the ticket barrier. 

Mr Zimmerman said he remembered "being struck a few times... and then the picture goes blank so I assume he must have kicked me hard enough to knock me out.

"I don't have any recollection of the knife or having my throat cut, the next thing I do remember is about five minutes later being on the stairs back up to the platform being attended to by an off-duty GP who was miraculously passing," he said

England's women have called up uncapped Middlesex left-arm spinner Alex Hartley for the first two games of their one-day international series with Pakistan.

Coach Mark Robinson said: "Alex has worked incredibly hard at her game over the last 12-18 months, and I have been very impressed with her skill as a left-arm spinner in the time that I have been working with her."

The pressures on general practice are leading to a "budget airline" style service, according to one doctor from a busy inner-city London practice.

Rebecca Rosen, a London GP and senior fellow at the Nuffield Trust, said the trend is a mixed blessing for doctors and patients.

She said changes made in her practice to cope with rising demand, falling income and increasing contractual and regulatory requirements "risk pushing us into a budget airline-style modus operandi."

A man was trapped under a one tonne compressor in Richmond Park after he was impaled by a copper pipe that fell out of the machine he was carrying. 

A 15-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism has been bailed.

The teenager was held yesterday at a residential address in east London at about 08:15.

Scotland Yard, external said he was bailed to return to an east London police station in late July.
