    Bob Dale
    BBC Live reporter

Speed restrictions are being introduced on the South East's rail network on Thursday, as the region prepares for Storm Doris.

Trains will be limited to 50mph, to allow drivers extra stopping time if trees or other debris is blown onto tracks.

Southern says the speed limit means it won't be able to run its full service, with only one direct Brighton to Victoria train an hour between 11:00 GMT and 18:00 GMT.

Southeastern says its coastal routes, from Ashford to Ramsgate and Hastings to Battle, will be the most affected.

  7. Owners told not to use dangerous tumble dryers after allpublished at 17:59 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2017

Millions of owners of potentially lethal tumble dryers have been warned not to use them, while they await repair.

Tumble dryers sold under the Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit brands have been behind a series of fires.

Their owner Whirlpool had previously said they were all right to use, providing someone was in attendance.

But following advice from Trading Standards, the new guidance is not to use them until they are repaired.

Fires have been caused by excess fluff, which can come into contact with the heating element and so catch light.

One machine awaiting repair caught fire in London last August, causing a blaze in a tower block, which took 120 firefighters to bring it under control.

  8. Stop asking London to pay for far away park, urges MPpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2017

James Berry, Conservative MP for Kingston and Surbiton

A Tory MP has proposed a bill to protect London councils from paying "hefty sums" to fund a park that runs through Essex and Hertfordshire.

The bill proposed by James Berry, Conservative MP for Kingston and Surbiton, would end the annual £10.1m levy paid by all London councils to maintain the Lee Valley Regional Park, a 10,000-acre site that hosted cycling and canoeing events during the London Olympics in 2012.

Mr Berry called for a "radical review" of funding and suggested that Lee Valley could be funded by the Government, similarly to the Royal Parks.

Labour's Stella Creasy objected to the proposals, saying the park was London's "green lung" which should be preserved amid growing concerns over air pollution in the capital.

MPs decided the Bill should be given leave to be debated and it is due to return to the Commons on 24 March.

  17. New Met commissioner benefited 'from a tragedy she provoked'published at 15:40 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2017

The family of Jean Charles de Menezes has criticised the appointment of Cressida Dick as Met Police commissioner.

Speaking to BBC Brasil, cousins Patricia Armani and Alex Pereira said the announcement was offensive to the memory of Menezes, who was gunned down by armed officers in July 2005 after being mistakenly identified as terror suspect. Ms Dick commanded the operation from the Met HQ but was exonerated of any blame at a criminal trial two years later.

"Cressida Dick was in charge of the operation in which an innocent man was killed and her actions were at least incompetent.

"Our family is disappointed that she has now been appointed for such an important role at a time when there are many more threats to public security in the form of terrorism. What are the guarantees that more innocent people won't be killed by the police in London?" said Ms Armani.

She added the family wrote to Sadiq Khan asking him to refrain from endorsing Ms Dick's appointment.

Mr Pereira accused the new commissioner of benefiting "from a tragedy she provoked herself".

"It's not easy to see her become the highest police authority in Britain," he said.
