Friends and family of a woman who has been missing since the fire at Grenfell Tower gathered near the site of the burnt-out building to pay tribute to her.

Zainab Dean, who was in her 14th floor flat with her two-year-old son Jeremiah, when the fire broke out, was described as a "beautiful, loving lady".

A few dozen people, some carrying flowers and wearing T-shirts featuring a picture of the 28-year-old and her son, walked along Bramley Road in west London, singing songs including Amazing Grace.

  3. 'Chaos' on the groundpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Matthew Price
    BBC correspondent

There are many things fuelling the anger felt here.

The catastrophic loss of life is the primary factor, of course. But there is also the fact that people are finding it very difficult to get any information.

There does not appear to be any central official point here on the ground where people can go to get answers and support. No marquee with "help centre" written on the side. No officials with lanyards guiding confused and desperate people to counsellors.

There has been a huge voluntary response, with local churches and others helping people.

And yet on the ground people speak of a total lack of co-ordination from the government and Kensington and Chelsea council.

They talk of absolute chaos. And they say what they regard as the inability of the local council to respond to their needs and concerns is "symptomatic of why we had this disaster".

The thing about anger and its energy is it has to get directed in the right way. It has to get shaped so it becomes a positive source. And I think the thing that I find most troubling is those who would wish to use that anger to deepen divisions in society."

London Fire Brigade said the line, which runs above ground near Grenfell Tower, had been temporarily closed because of a "short-term risk of some debris falling onto the tracks".

Earlier it was announced that both Hammersmith and City Line, and Circle Line trains had been partly suspended because of safety fears near Grenfell Tower.

A spokesman said teams were working to secure the debris so the line could be reopened as soon as possible.

  12. Tributes to missingpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Michael Hillier

Michael Hillier, who used to live in the Grenfell Tower, laid flowers for his friend Moses, who has been missing since the fire.

He told BBC News: "There are a lot of people grieving for him right now. He was a very loving man.

"He always used to make sure that people were cared for and looked after."

Also missing is Sheila Smith, 84, who lived on the 16th floor of Grenfell Tower. She has been described as a "truly beautiful person" and "love, pure and simple".

Her friend Gary Allen, who had known her for 20 years added: "We shared a great interest in history, Shakespeare, the Knights Templar, et cetera and she had a great spirituality about her.

We now know that two lines have been partly suspended by Transport for London amid concern over safety near Grenfell Tower.

Earlier it was announced that the Hammersmith and City Line was being suspended between Edgware Road and Hammersmith. Now the Circle Line has also been closed, partly due to the fire and partly because of planned engineering work.

Transport for London said the move had been made "at the request of the London Fire Brigade".

A sign at Ladbroke Grove station put the closures down to "the safety of the Tower".

  16. Volunteer says angry scenes not 'true reflection' of responsepublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    BBC News Channel

    Swarzy Macaly

Volunteer Swarzy Macaly, who is helping to co-ordinate the emergency effort following the fire at Grenfell Tower, says the images of angry crowds are not a "true reflection" of how people are responding.

She told the BBC: "All over the news are riots and (people) kicking down doors. That is not a true reflection.

"If you are on the ground, you know what the community spirit is. Yes people are angry, but people are loving.

"I haven't seen any council members, we're doing this very organically. But we're doing our best to lead a community where we're still mourning."

  17. Government statement on claddingpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

There has been speculation over whether the cladding used to cover Grenfell Tower contributed to the speed at which the fire spread.

BBC Newsnight has reported that the exterior cladding on Grenfell Tower, added in 2015, had a polyethylene - or plastic - core instead of a more fireproof alternative.

Now comes a statement from the Department for Communities and Local Government: "Cladding using a composite aluminium panel with a polyethylene core would be non-compliant with current Building Regulations guidance.

"This material should not be used as cladding on buildings over 18m in height.

"We cannot comment on what type of cladding was used on the building - this will be subject to investigations."

  18. Westway residents 'rehoused'published at 12:26 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

BBC presenter Emily Maitlis says people who have been staying in Westway sports centre, where some of the people evacuated from nearby buildings have been given shelter, have been rehoused.

  20. MP wants police assurances over investigationpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

Labour MP David Lammy has today written to Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, regarding the Grenfell Tower criminal investigation.

He says the public needs to know that the investigation has all the resources it needs and is being worked on by the very best senior officers.

He asks for confirmation that all the companies, contractors and subcontractors involved in Greenfell Tower will be investigated.

He adds: "Will you also confirm as a matter of urgency that the full public inquiry announced by the Prime Minister yesterday will not impede the work of the criminal investigation?"
