It's official, Adele has a bigger pull than the England national football team. Or any football team in the country for that matter.

The London singer attracted 98,000 fans into the home of English football for the first of her four-night residency at the venue.

During the gig, she paid tribute to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire, where she was seen helping out at the scene of the disaster not far from her own home, and asked fans to donate to the relief fund.

She also left in style, in a London black cab (perhaps Uber don't operate inside stadiums?) as you can see below via some fan shot footage.

Adele has said previously that she's not a fan of touring, so a quick cab home will have suited her down to the ground.

The Wembley dates crown an epic world tour and in the handwritten programme notes she confirmed: "I don't know if I'll ever tour again."

Adele said: "So this is it after 15 months on the road and 18 months of 25 we are at the end. We have taken this tour across UK + Ireland, throughout Europe, all over America and I finally got to go to Australia and New Zealand too.

"Touring is a peculiar thing, it doesn't suit me particularly well. I'm a real homebody and I get so much joy in the small things. Plus I'm dramatic and have a terrible history of touring. Until now that is! I've done 119 shows and these last 4 will take me up to 123, it has been hard out an absolute thrill and pleasure to have done."

    She added:

    Quote Message

I only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my favourite artist have had on me live. And I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don't know if I'll ever tour again and so I want my last time to be at home.

"Thank you for coming, for all of your ridiculous love and kindness. I will remember all of this for the rest of my life. Love you. Goodnight for now" ❤️Adele".

A grandfather died after being struck by a van which crashed into a group of people during a terror attack near a mosque in north London, an inquest has heard.

Makram Ali, from Haringey, had left a prayer meeting at Muslim Welfare House in Finsbury Park when he was hit by the vehicle in the early hours of the morning.

The 51-year-old is believed to have suffered a "medical episode" shortly before the incident and had been seen to fall to the ground, but he was alive when the van crashed into him, an inquest at St Pancras Coroner's Court heard.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Ali's death was caused by multiple injuries and he was pronounced dead at 01.04 on 19 June, Detective Inspector Edwin Hall of the Metropolitan Police told the court.

He said the incident was being treated as a terrorist-related murder and those present were wearing traditional Muslim dress and were easily recognisable as being Muslim.

During a brief hearing, senior coroner for Inner North London Mary Hassell opened and adjourned the inquest until any criminal proceedings have finished.

Following his death, Mr Ali's family paid tribute to him as a "quiet, gentle man".

Nine other people were injured in the attack in the early hours 19 June.

The area was busy with worshippers attending Ramadan night prayers at the time.

Darren Osborne has appeared in court accused of murder and attempted murder over the incident.

The 47-year-old, from Cardiff, is charged with killing Mr Ali and the attempted murder of others at the scene.

Southern rail has axed a quarter of its train services as an overtime ban by driver's union Aslef comes into force.

Aslef is in dispute with Southern over driver-only-operated trains and the role of train staff.

Mick Whelan, the union's general secretary, said: "The ban reflects the total loss of trust and goodwill between train drivers and the company."

Southern is operating a revised timetable affecting services in Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.

  6. Public inquiry into tower fire must start as soon as possible, Khanpublished at 09:55 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

Sir Martin Moore-BickImage source, British High Commission in Brunei

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has commented on the appointment of Sir Martin Moore-Bick to lead the public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire:

    Quote Message

It's crucial that the Public Inquiry into the devastating Grenfell Tower fire starts as quickly as possible, so survivors and families of victims can start getting answers and the process of getting justice can begin. I promised the community in North Kensington that I would help them get the answers they deserve. Sir Martin Moore-Bick must ensure that the residents and local community are properly consulted on the Terms of Reference of the Inquiry, that they can participate throughout with their legal costs fully covered, that it looks at all of the issues relating to this terrible fire and wider issues too. An interim report should be published over the summer, so that we can start to get urgent answers to the many issues arising out of this tragedy.

    Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
