  2. 24-hour screening of The Clock at Tate Modern announcedpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    A 24 hour-long video installation showing the time is going on display at Tate Modern.

    The gallery will be holding screenings, lasting 24 hours, of the work by London-based artist Christian Marclay.

    Described as a "contemporary masterpiece", The Clock is a montage of thousands of film and TV clips specifying the time of day, synchronised to the exact time where it is screened.

    Tate said the audience would "experience a vast range of narratives, settings and moods within the space of a few minutes, allowing time to unravel in countless directions at once".

    The free screenings will take place for three months from September next year and were announced as Tate unveiled its annual report.

    The first ever Stage Debut Awards took place on Sunday - recognising new talent in the British theatre industry.

    Amber Riley and John Boyega were both nominated for one of the night's top prizes, but lost out to the lead actor in Bat Out of Hell.

    Andrew Polec, the star of the Meat Loaf musical, took home the prize for best West End debut.

    His co-star Christina Bennington, who accepted the prize, said he would be "thrilled and delighted" to have won.

    Samuel Thomas won best actor in a musical, while Christina Bennington accepted the prize for best West End debut on behalf of Bat Out of Hell co-star Joe Polec

    An asylum seeker flown to Afghanistan despite a High Court injunction arrived back in London overnight.

    Samim Bigzad, 22, was living in Ramsgate, Kent, after entering the UK illegally join his father who was granted asylum.

    Home Secretary Amber Rudd is being accused of contempt of court, as the Home Office was made aware of the injunction before his deportation.

    Mr Bigzad landed at 22:45 BST and was allowed to return to his foster family.

    An overwhelming number of teachers in the UK have suffered either physically or mentally because of their jobs, a study has suggested.

    The research, commissioned by the charity Education Support Partnership, indicated 75% of teaching staff in schools and colleges experienced symptoms stemming from their work.

    Former Olympics Minister and Minister for London Dame Tessa Jowell has been diagnosed with brain cancer, her family have revealed.

    Her daughter-in-law Ella Woodward posted on social media that the Labour peer was diagnosed in May.

    Writing on Dame Tessa's 70th birthday, she described the last few months as "some of the hardest of our lives".

    The former MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, who stood down in 2015, responded by tweeting her thanks for the "love and support" she had been shown.

    Ms Woodward, a food blogger who is married to the politician's son Matt Mills, wrote on Instagram: "Matt's Mum was suddenly diagnosed with brain cancer in May.

    "Her bravery, optimism, love and support for others during this process has inspired us both so much, and today we're all pledging to try and do everything we can to make people's lives with cancer better for longer.
