Chelsea FC - who play near Parsons Green - have released a statement ahead of their match against Sunday on Arsenal:

    Quote Message

The safety of all fans and visitors to Stamford Bridge is of paramount importance to the club. Following Friday morning’s incident at Parsons Green, and in order to help us fully prepare for the game, the majority of the Stamford Bridge site will remain closed until Sunday morning. This includes Stadium Tours, the Museum, Megastore and the Chelsea Health Club & Spa, while the ticket office will be operating via telephone and online only. During that time, entrance to the site will be via the Stamford Gate entrance only. On Sunday, we urge supporters to arrive at least one hour before kick-off to allow for extra security measures. We also request that supporters do not bring bags as this will delay your entry to the stadium. The club continues to monitor events and liaise with the police and relevant authorities on supporter safety.

    Dal Babu

Dal Babu, a former chief supt with the Met Police, told the BBC those who planned attacks like these were very sophisticated online but seemed to be very unsophisticated when it came to actually carrying them out.

"We have encryption used by individuals - on What's App, Facebook or whatever device they use - to ensure that they are able to radicalise individuals and actually carry out conversations, so at the very, very highest level encryption which can't be broken.

"At the other end you have this crudeness - in terms of a bucket with what appears to be chemicals in there with a crude... timer device," he said.

  15. Attack has 'feel of an individual'published at 17:08 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    Homeland security expert says...

    BBC Radio 5 live

    Quote Message

It's a very unsophisticated device. For example, (in) 2005 when there were three attacks on the underground, one on a bus, in a coordinated attack with far more sophisticated bombs that had been created by a cell that was being manipulated by a mastermind abroad. This is something very different. It has the feel of an individual. That the authorities haven't put us up to the critical level means that they are not at this moment concerned that there could be another device about to go off otherwise they'd have to do that.

    • Emergency services including police, fire and ambulance were called at about 08:20 BST after reports of an explosion on a London-bound District Line train at Parsons Green

    • Witnesses described seeing a white "builder's bucket" in a supermarket bag which was on fire and a "wall of flame" in the train carriage
    • A hunt for the person who placed the device - which the BBC understands had a timer - is under way
    • Some people who were in the station said they saw "panicked scenes" with people being crushed by others as they tried to escape
    • After chairing a meeting of Cobra, Prime Minister Theresa May said the threat of terrorism remains "severe"
    • Mrs May condemned the "cowardly" attack and said the device "intended to cause significant harm"

  20. Device bucket has 'wealth of clues'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 15 September 2017

    Frank Gardner
    BBC Security Correspondent

Within hours of this morning's blast at Parsons Green station, forensic scientists from the government's Defence Science and Technology Laboratories began examining the remains of the device.

The intact builder's bucket recovered from the site has provided them with a wealth of clues.

Early indications are that had the device functioned properly it could have killed or maimed nearly everyone around it in the carriage.

Instead, experts say that the improvised device combusted or, to use the technical term, "deflagrated".

This means that a large flame and heat were generated, rather than a full-force explosion.

A manhunt is now underway to find who planted the device.
